Just got the Ibanez Standard Fuzz...so raunchy, subtle octave up..really cool find.

Nice...the Ibanez Standard fuzz has subtle octave? I've had three of those, and still have one--anything but subtle octave--that pedal is very under-rated and KILLS an Octavia and Super Fuzz IMO--easily on par with the Foxx Tone Machine Octave-wise, but I like the fuzz feel a bit better.
If you have the fuzz maxed you should have Octave 'o plenty(or maybe spray out the slider pots

There's a lot of tones in the ibanez for sure...definitely can get to full ring mod octave territory. I like it best when the octave is at a subtler setting ..
And, yes, I think it's very underrated..been looking for one for a while.

Hey, PT--I hear you. I just remember the first time I got one back in '96/'97 and thinking standard fuzz, and being blown away by how great the octave sounds--glad to hear the score

How close is the Standard to the Superfuzz ?

they're not really similar at all (except, I think,they're both from '68).
The Marshall is very much like some tone benders and variants I've heard, maybe a bit rounder and more raw sounding..
The Ibanez has two wild and crazy fuzz tones..one that has lots of mids, and one that's super scooped and buzzy. Both have a present octave up, but the scooped side's is less pronounced..one thing I'm noticing about the standard, is that it's a great fuzz for layering parts when recording.

Edit: the more I play with the ibanez, the more weirdness I find, there are sweet spots all over the neck that yield different overtones etc..standard fuzz is a very inaccurate name

Well, from my experience the shinei Super Fuzz and the Ibanez Standard fuzz are very similar--Ibanez was a cloning company, even of other Japanese companies--the first Super Fuzz was more like very early '70's(Steve Hackett--Genesis)--the Ibanez SF, came out a bit later in the mid '70's--circuit-wise, both do the octave fuzz thing straight on, and both have the scooped mid setting, and the nothing but mid-range setting(although different circuit, Roland did the same voicing thing with the Bee Baa)--the Ibanez more conveniently is foot-switchable unlike the Super Fuzz with the flimsy plastic side switch.

I find personally, the IB SF to be less chaotic,less compressed, and more focused= more use-able than the Super Fuzz, and better tone...hence what you're finding with layering.

That's why I love the vintage fuzz..so many nuances, and variations. I want them all..sigh
