Yeah i am sorta thinking different now. That g major is the biggest waste of money in the world and it cuts in and cuts out like i don't here any audio but its on. I am gonna try to return it.

I am a delay freak and have tried many of them. If I were you I would get either a Skreddy Echo or a Rocketride FEOTM and an old EH DMM. If you really want tap tempo then I would get the Strymon Brigadier delay instead of the DMM. I have just bought a Roland 201 Space Echo and it is the dogs but it is a big piece of kit! I would also suggest trying as many different delays as you can because we all like different things!

Cheers,

Sean

These days Im using an Old Ibanez DML and a GOOD Echo Park ( my DBD is on Loan ) ..... I go in mono to the Echo Park and then split one side to the DML and the Other to an TGT11 Asteroids chorus ....
Im seriously considering the Strymon El Capistan when It comes out

Yea, the El Capistan looks great. Both the Blue Sky reverb and the Brigadier are excellent pedals so El Capistan is a good bet! The Brigadier can get closer to the luscious shimmery EH DMM sound than any other pedal IMO - other than a DMM of course! Would love to try the Orbit flanger too!!

Yeah thats what I use the DML for - it has asymmetrical modulation and the analog compander so it feels very natural to me... just enough mod to make it shimmer.....

I figured out that what I really like about modulated delay is the delayed modulation

I use the Echo Park for the reverse and ping pong and sweep ' fun ' sounds when soundscaping ....

the El Capistan could be a killer - I havent tried any of the Strymons yet...

SO MANY great delays these days.

but i am consistently impressed with the DEEP BLUE. i have spent so much time with it, and used it SO MUCH, that i can hear all the little nuances of the DBD.

it manages to get that "smeared" sound like a tape delay, and gets nice little modulation happening with the repeats. it is SUBTLE, but it's there.

over 200 pedal demos on my youtube, and EVERY ONE OF THEM has deep blue delay. i tag it in every video..... :pedallove

I am a Delay Junkie, I usually have 3 or 4 on my board at a time. Currently on the board.

Boss DM-2 (this has been on my board since the 80's), this is actually the second one to get on the board, the first one had the MN3205 chip and the current one has a MN3005 (it's just a wee bit better IMO)
Molloon (newest addition to the board), replaced by DD-2 because it has tap tempo. As soon as I can figure out how to mod my DD-2 for tap tempo the Molloon is coming off.
Strymon Brig (perhaps my favorite delay right now). It is the only delay that I would swear was analog in a blind test. Some of the Digital Delays that are analog "voiced" sound great but they don't sound analog to me.

Not currently on the board.

DOD FX-90
Boss DD-2 (actually I have two of them)
DMM (modded by me)
Vintage Ibanez AD-9
Ambience

Used to Own.

Superdelay
Malekko E-600B
Ibanez AD-9 re-issue
SIB Mr Echo
Ibanez DE-7 (perhaps the best delay in the low budget category)

Personally I don't care for pedals with too many knobs or switches, if I did I would just get a 2290 and be done with it.

I found this video clip of guys at Taylor Barefoot Studios who tested a number of delay pedals :

Moog MF-104
Empress Vintage Modified Superdelay
Dr Scientist Sunny Day Delay
Way Huge Aquapuss
MXR Carbon Copy
Toneczar Echoczar
ElectroHarmonix Deluxe Memory Man Reissue
Diamond Memory Lane
Hughes and Kettner Replex
Roland SRE-555

The guitar was a '59 Strat. Amp was a Black 'n Tan from Alessandro with a 1x12 cab, also from Alessandro. R-121/SM-57 into a Shadow Hill Gama 8, to Lynx Aurora 16 into Protools. Monster cables were used for interconnects and a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power II provided the juice. Nothing else was in the guitar's chain. Recorded the video in 720p HD.
