WIIO vs Model H

Postby Radiosdead » Thu Jan 21, 2010 12:33 am

Ok...so I got my Model H the other day (Thanks Newark!).

I've had my WIIO for a bit now and have been trying to bond with it. It does some cool stuff...stuff I like..I find it very bright....duh thats what the treble knob is for yeah..? I find that when I roll the treble down it loses that magic crisp...Anyways I like it a bit...it does nicely when I roll the knob down. I can almost get my High Gain Sunface to sound similar when rolling off my volume...a bit of a crispy sizzle if that makes sense.

Now vs the Model H...

I really really like the Model H..I don't really think they sound at all similar...If I had to choose I'd pick the H, and it wouldn't be that hard of a choice really.

Anyone else play both and have differing views? Interested to hear you guys chime in. I know Bobby has played both...cuz i saw the stinking demos...and bought both! As it stands, I think I'm gonna shed the WIIO, but I'm not certain....

Cheers!

i think the H is a more dynamic and "juicy" pedal.......and has more complex midrange......

the WIIO is quite good as well, but doesn't have the juicy mids that the H has.....

I was all lined up to buy a used WIIO, but realized there must be a reason no one does clips with single coils (I play a Strat). I passed and found a Model H and am really happy with it.

You also have to wonder about a pedal that there are only 100 of and there are several for sale or trade at any given time. Also, even Catalinbread is changing it when it becomes a regular production model next month.

yeah part of the trick with the H is the dynamic EQ that matches the dynamic distortion on a curve that mimics what certain amps do .....
Its that last 10% difference that makes all the difference....

also the H maintains this relationship throughout its dial travel...... sculpted and manicured. Easy to forget its a pedal.

I think its funny that someone has already tried to copy a pedal that hasnt even really been released yet

Well as they will find out there are subtlties in BJs circuit manicuring that you may not even notice until you put something next to it.......this ones been under development for a couple years now...

good luck cloning this one

So...who wants to buy the WIIO? :)...it's a fun pedal, but I 100% like my H better...they don't sound at all alike. I've never personally played a Hiwatt so I can only reference how these sound through my rig...Anyways WIIO for sale on TGP. I'll take offers for less though :).

Cheers!

Donner, I have to say I am a bit confused by this post... Perhaps I am misreading you? But the WIIO is not a copy of anything... Shoot I can't even afford a Model H to copy one, spent too much money going to the source:

Beyond that I have far too much respect for Bjorn to take such shortcuts.

Anyway folks I won't get into a detailed WIIO discussion here, but will on our forum. http://www.catalinbread.com/forums/

Thanks!
Nicholas
