Red Rooster Booster

I have the TB-83 Extra and it KILLS! I also have the DAM Red Rooster and the BJF Red Rooster. They are all very different. I'm keeping them all!

how would describe the differences???

The BJF Red Rooster Booster is more of a full range boost with a touch of sparkle in the high end. It doesnt color your tone as much as a traditional Treble Booster. It takes your sound and makes it HUGE and fat. It retains the low end and makes it fuller too while driving your amp as much as you would like. I've had this one the longest and it is a keeper.

Traditional Treble Boosters take some of the low end off and really emphasize the upper mids and highs. They color your tone quite a bit. As you probably know, they were originally designed to push dark amps and add clarity and punch to a guitar (especially for Humbuckers which can be dark and muddy with the wrong amp).

The Cornish TB-83 Extra is what Brian May used for many Queen recordings. It is a silicon Treble Booster that cuts lows and tightens them in a very good way, adds highs and gives a hell of a punch in the mid range. This is where it differs from other TBs that focus mostly on the Treble range. If you want Queen sounds, the bus stops here. But don't think you will get those sounds at whisper quiet levels. Your amp must be pushed (not necessarly dimed but not clean either). It is incredibly musical and gets beautiful feedback on sustained notes. Roll back your guitar volume and you can get those Under Pressure cleans.

The DAM Red Rooster is a germanium TB and is more like the original design Dallas Rangemaster type but has a sweepable range knob which can go from full range fat boost to traditional treble boost. It has all the squishy goodness that you would like and is the most vintage sounding of the three.

I play AC30 type amps which love booster type pedals more than anything. This is why I have three on my board! They are also perfect for stacking into other pedals and sound amazing in this capacity.

I have found three totally different booster pedals and have uses for all of them. My TB hunt is over.

By the way, I've never tried Bjorn's Little Red Trebler. I assume that it is the closest to a traditional Treble booster in his line and probably the best comparison to the Cornish.

This must be due to the low gain preamp section that uses the EF-86 tube? I think if I get a little valve amp made one of these days
it will have a preamp with both the EF-86 and the 12AX7 available.

the LRT is more like a Fender bright switch on a knob..... very tasty with the right amp or into a HB

The BJFE RRB does kill, it's one of those pedals that I wish I kept, but happy that it's somewhere making some awesome music. Maybe someday I will have another when funds allow?

The DAM Red Rooster is a pedal that has been on my radar lately, but I have some other pedals and gear before I start getting into trebel boosters..plus Filtertrons don't seem to need too much treble boosting...
