band practical jokes?

Postby huckleboogie » Sat Jan 31, 2009 6:05 pm

i just browsed the forum and i remember i once told the story of our bass player putiing duct tape on the LED of my DynaRed before the first set and swithching it on, so my guitar intro to Miles Davis' "Full Nelson" (super clean funk guitar solo) came out a little different :-)

anyone got funny stories to tell ???? i might use them as an inspiration. You never know....

from my days playing on a boat with a top 40 band (we were really bored) and from other people telling stories, my favorites include:

tuning the complete guitar a half step below without telling the guitar player

sticking a wine cork underneath the bassdrum pedal, so it won't move

replacing cymbals on the drum set with those black felt things You put between the cymbals during transport.

oh yea and another one, i guess its a classic but back then i was too young to see it comin: we were backing up this chick singer at conservatory and she was doing a country song for an examination, so we were not playing in front of an audience, but a comission consisting of 4 teachers who were sitting 6 feet away from the band in a small room. on the last rehearsal the bass player told the whole band, lets makes some fun , in the break after the 2nd chorus lets all jump up (we were sitting), and imitate a train whistle "whooo-whoo".
and dammit, i did, but a split second too late i realized i was the only one....the guys were laughin so hard, we almost had to stop the song.
i was 18 then, but i'm still telling the bass player one day i'll take revenge.

does this belong to "lifestyle"???? i dunno :D

well, we were all in our early 20s, and spent years together, so whoever passed out first usually got pranked one way or another. as i was usually the "driver" on most gigs, i didn't drink too much very often.

i seem to remember spraying some fishbait odor enhancer on someone's microphone once....

or the typical story....playing a gig, some HOT looking girl comes up, talks me me for about 3 minutes, before she asked the inevitable "so, is the lead singer SINGLE?" question....

to which we would always respond "yes, but he's GAY, honey....."

one time in Georgia somewhere, we pranked the CLUB after we were done loading out by shooting roman candles into the inside of the club. we got escorted OUT of that town by the local police.

best prank we EVER pulled.......we had hotel rooms at a hotel in augusta Georgia. rooms were directly on top of each other. instead of the typical "throw the TV out the window" kind of stuff", we DUCT TAPED the door closed and sealed. we fashioned a rope out of the bedsheets, stopped up the drains in bathtub and sink, and basically made an AQUARIUM out of the hotel room, once it started filling up, we climbed down the bedsheet/rope, got our stuff, and left for the next town.

our agent wasn't too happy about that one, as he got charged for the damage 8)

thats the kind of stories i wanna hear :-)
a standard one in my band is whenever some of us gets to talk to a nice girl after the show to pass the guy and ask sthg like: "hey, how's Your girfriend? hope all's well with the kids!" (regardless if he has a girlfriend or kids).

you JUST made me remember one.

there was a club in pascagoula MS a REAL rock n roll bar. i can't remember the name, but it was a pretty well known joint.

the owner was KNOWN for being completely BONKERS.

we were loading out our gear, and he comes out of the office with an uzi, and starts shooting at us with rubber bullets. which still HURT like all hell......but we were running and ducking behind our speakers.

that guy was NUTS......THUNDERS! it was called THUNDERS.....
