they still do that, but in another town, Bayreuth, 3 hrs south of Dresden. well, Wagner. i got mixed feelings bout the guy. seen a fair share of his operas, and theres some of the greatest music in there....the orchestra overture of "Lohengrin" is just not from this world..... on the other hand his anti-semitic statements. he couldnt foresee that it would be "misused" some decades later, but still it can't be denied that he wrote a nasty essay about jewish composers.
interesting: Charlie Chaplin has obviously felt the 2 sides of Wagner, and he used the aforementioned overture twice in "the great dictator": first time when Hinckel is playing with the inflatable globe, but ALSO in the ending sequence, when the world is freed from the dictator.
