A Pickup question

So, I have a 97' G&L Legacy. I changed out the stock pups with fender laces and did not like them. I changed again to the GFS hot rails, lil' killers. http://store.guitarfetish.com/casetof3lilk1.html

I believe I use the 2 and 4 position mostly, which would be nice because those are the coil tapped settings.

So far I've had no problems with the pickups blending with any pedal, but I've contemplated changing things around.

Now, I'm not a huge Gilmour guy (in trying to copy his sound that is)...I don't play lead like that or anything, but I thought the EMG DG-20 or the Kinman Woodstock plus might be a good upgrade. I'm a little curious to see if people have had experience with those two and/or some hotrails?

If you are willing to roll the dice and chance having to deal with Chris Kinman personally on warranty issues he wont back up without major stress and argument (within 30 days of buying them) than go for it.

im kinda considering the EMG Gilmour pups for my new strat but they seem like a hassle with having to remove the pickguard to change the battery all the time and stuff... but still very tempted

I don't have much experience with the EMGs, but the batteries for the Duncan classic live wires in my strat last for years. Literally years. Very, very quiet, sounds like a very good Strat. Not quite the chime of a great strat, but that's the usual trade off isn't it for more drive.

I have some Van Zandt pickups in my strat. They never seem to get any buzz on the forums, but they sound pretty darn good.

i was an EMG endorser in the 90s, and liked them. they don't sound like standard single coils, but they are VERY quiet, and the DG-20 set is nice, with the expander and mid boost controls. it's a more sterile sound tho, but with tons of output if you need it. EMG's also work very well if you are pushing a huge chain of effects pedals......or very long cables....since the pickup system itself is buffered/preamped.

suhr pickups are probably my fave true single soils, the V60LP and Fletcher/Landaus.....

Dimarzio HS series are what I use currently, best compromise between true single coil and EMGs.

the new suhr SSC system is VERY interesting, as you can use real single coils AND you can have complete quiet.

it's just such a minefield of RFI and other interference from neon lights and bad AC power and everything else....i hate the "buzzing" and "humming" sounds that true single coils pick up in a performance environment.

if you DO go with standard singles, make sure middle is RWRP, so that you can at least have quiet in position 2 and 4 8)

yes, after a long search i settled on the suhrs, with the new silent system! like Slim said, You can use it with any singlecoils of Your choice.
and there's no loss of tone whatsoever....not that i could tell at least!
i tried Voodoo PUs, Rio Grande (very good!!) , Barden (ouch!), Kinmans and Fralins before. theyre all good (well- with one exception), just a matter of taste i guess.
but i love the EMG sound....i'm crazy bout the sound of a friend's clapton signature.
awww, just too many choices out there. at one point u just gotta say F*** it and lets play some music :D
