I've been away from Wah-wahs for 40 years but back than I was building copies of Vox. We didn't have proper pedals so I converted speed pedals from sawing machines.
The inductor is a critical component so after having wound tens of different ones and not hitting the sweet spot I tried a discarded recording head from a tape deck. Bingo! There was an electronics surplus shop where one could buy tape heads that didn't pass quality control at the factory. I bought a bucket full for next to nothing.

So, get a few old tape decks at a garage sale, remove the heads and try them in your wah-wah. You'll be surpised. Heads from cassette recorders have to low inductance but ones from 8-tracks could very well be just fine.

Seems like there are some wah wah experts replying to this thread, can someone shed some light on this.
First, is there a way to adjust the tension of the pedal. If i have my SQ pedal say in the middle of it's travel and take my foot off, it will fall toe forward. Is there a way to tighten the tension?
Two, I power my SQ with a PP2+ and after powering my board up, the first time I step on the SQ to turn it on, it makes a loud pop. As long as I keep it powered up it will not do it again. However if I turn the power off, then power up and turn it on, it will pop again. Thanks in advance.

Yeah that pop is a build up that is released with the first pop... tru bypass thingy..... just stomp it a couple times when you power up (or I think you can add a 100k to ground)

depends on the shell maker but if you look up under the top part where it pivots there could be a tension adjustment there,,, each one is different...

No can do. Can't find sawing machine pedals of correct design and don't have any of those vintage tape heads left.

Every pedal made to order, took 5 weeks from Paypal payment to delivery. Opted for the Fuzz buffer, Quack control and LED light, just under $300.00 and well worth it.

+10000000000000

Been using mine for a year and a half now. Love it.

One thing Ive found with wahs is since its changing the EQ my preference has alot to do with the guitar Im playing and even more so the pickup position...... it changes the center point sort of.....

My favorite for neck pup SRV stuff is the Pedalworx Modded one........ and I like BJs from the VCFwah the best for Bridge pickups.....

I also really liked Eskimo Joes SupaQuack when I palyed it and Docs A51

my old non booteek favorites were the Snarlin Dogs whine o Wah with the rotary on the side and the Crybaby 535Q

being a vocal effect wah is like choosing a voice ,, its just what your ear likes..... 8)
