Any acoustic lovers???

Postby Eskimo_Joe » Sun Aug 03, 2008 11:32 am

Hi everybody,

I was wondering if anyone is into playing acoustic? A couple yrs ago I got my first acoustic guitar mostly so I could practice with my band without all of us having to go electric. I was expecting to like it as much as I do. It's definitely expanded my abilities and it's just a blast on top of that. The other thing is that I think it's helped my singing...there's something about how it sounds and being able to feel the vibrations against your core that helps me feel more confident of hitting the right notes. Anyway, anyone else into acoustic?

The other thing I was going to mention is what a difference the strings make. I had to go through a couple sets to find the ones that really made my guitar sound its best. Originally I tried some ones that were light mediums, which were great for bending notes, but sounded really thin. I sacrificed and went up to some mediums which are a lot harded to bend, but sound tens times better. Anyway, probably old news, but thought that was interesting.

I borrowed an accustic guitar for a few weeks and I have to say... it opened up whole new dimention of guitar playing for me...

it made me realize how touch sensitive the guitar strings are...
showed me a little emotions in each/different chords... and such...

I would like to get a nylon string guitar for classic music...

yeah i still play alot of acoustic .... its why I have heavy bottom strings on my electrics too (10-56) I love that big piano like ring on the bottom strings ......

and as was said playing acoustic makes you feel the strings and how much you can control your sound with your hands--- this is part of why most identifiable players sound like them self no matter what they play attack and release is in the hands....

I love acoustic! That's the sound that got me started on guitar. Beer + porch + acoustic guitar = a little slice of heaven in my book. I play a bunch of different acoustics from my beloved first Yamaha to Guilds to Alvarez Yairi and Gibson L-4 and a super nice Martin Trey signature model. It's crazy the tonal differences that you can get from different guitar woods and makers. I also like to throw a dobro on the lap every once in a while and mess around, that's a super fun acoustic instrument! I hear you about playing with mediums, it is a huge difference. I made the switch to mediums mostly because I tune down a full step because I'm a baritone and it's easier on my voice. You sort of get the best of both worlds with mediums and dropped tuning, since it's tuned down you can still throw down some good bends when called for and you also get that bigger medium sound. Hmmm gotta go time to pick up the Yairi, she's been neglected for a little while and needs some lovin............
