Fuzz can take on so many interesting shapes and sounds....so what is your favorite fuzz?

If you're favorite is a Candy Apple, what is your second favorite?

I'm guessing many people will respond with a fuzz made by BJF or by D*A*M....if you could only play BJF fuzzes or D*A*M fuzzes, which would you play and why?

Favorite - ProAnalog MKIII
2nd fav - Green Apple Fuzz
Show - Pink Purple Fuzz

Why? The MKIII has a ton of available gain/fuzz, but never gets bloated. I do not miss having a tone control with this fuzz. GAF - great nasty fuzz tones, also never gets bloated. I found the gated, octave, ring mod tones to be cool, but never used them enough to justify keeping it. The PPF is a great "in control" fuzz, almost an overdrive.

I would love to get my hands on a Folk Fuzz as I think that would be ideal for the type of music I play.

I have a D*A*M MKII which I love and it fits the same type of description that you gave of the ProAnalog MKIII. I'd be interested to know if they are pretty much the same or if there's some design differences. Anybody know?

The Folk Fuzz is a tasty devil. Great for alt country and Stonesy type stuff I think. If you can't find one for sale, I think the schematic is posted out there somewhere (by Bjorn I believe).

Don't have nearly the fuzz experience that you guys do, but I'll join in too...

So far, the fuzz face copies I've built are my favorite... I think they're just nice and simple and sounds great pretty much any way you have it set.

I think I need some time for the CAF to grow on me though. I was expecting something different when I'd read about how crazy a fuzz it was... I sort of see it as a well mannered version of a crazy fuzz, which is pretty nice actually. The only thing I haven't been able to dial in yet, is a really open raging fuzz kinda sound... everything I've gotten out of it has at least a hint of that congested, not quite biased right tone. (in a good way though)

I've always been curious about how hard it is to make a fuzz face type pedal. What has your experience been like so far?

Favorite fuzz (at the moment) is the Dice Works Epic. So many great tones and avenues for exploration in one pedal. Truly Epic!

It's a funny pedal for building. Really simple design and they're usually not that tough, but sometime's they're frustrating to get biased and set up properly... I had one that I swear was cursed and I never did get working. I think a kit build (generalguitargadgets or maybe BYOC) would probably be easier and more consistant, but I have more fun working from scratch. If they don't come with germanium transistors, I'm a big fan of just buying a matched pair from smallbear electronics rather than hunting for them.

After listening to a bunch of you tube videos this morning, I can't wait to get back to my gear and try a folk fuzz build.

Very cool! I wish I had any technical abilities whatsoever, I think it would be fun to try to make a pedal here and there. Let us know how the Folk Fuzz comes out!

I have both the Snow White and Pink Purple on my board and they are both my favorite. The PP is brighter and tighter and the SW has more bottom and middle and is dirtier. I tried to have just one of them on my board as it is too big and I want to down-size. But I cant do it! I also run a Honeybee into them much of the time.
