WTB: Skreddy Echo, older version, darker sounding dry tone

Postby rasputin1176 » Thu Jun 21, 2012 4:38 pm

Really looking for an older Skreddy Echo, the oldest versions were darker. Don't get me wrong the repeats are dark on all, but the one's from 2010 on get slightly louder & brighter on the dry signal, mainly when using any dirt or gain pedal with.
I talked to Marc at Skreddy and he agreed and even was nice enough to test what I heard with his gear. There are some circuit changes with the older ones as he was revising it. There was different input cap & all carbon comp resistors. Where as newer ones use metal film resistors in much of the input & output stages. It's a trade off to keep it quieter.
Please provide a photo of inside circuit, I'll know if it's what I want, or # inside lid that I'll check with Marc (I think it's gotta be 0-200).
Thanks for any help locating one

Well I may be in luck, if I win an auction "EvilBay"....
It's dated July 2009. Now unless Marc changed circuits in the middle of the year it's exactly right, going by a photo I have of a copy write 2009 circuit. It's got almost all carbon comp caps, few different cap types, & higher value input cap. All which make dry tone little less bright with no bump in volume. Most of the demos I watched when I first ordered mine were in 2009 also, and I loved the sounds.
If this works out I'll have a Skreddy Echo to sell, I doubt I'll keep 2.
Please keep an eye out though, don't know of I've got it yet
Thanks!

Interesting info about the evolution of the circuit. I loved my early Skrechos so I will have to keep my eyes open for an older one if I end up needing another delay.

Good luck on your search --

@ cajone5 Thanks, yeah Marc's customer service terrific and I'm letting him slightly mod my newer one. He's not going to change all the resistors back to carbon comp though, instead smaller changes in a cap and single resistor in input stage. It may work but I figure I have nothing to lose getting an older one and hearing for myself comparison of both. I'll try and post a demo of that in a week or 2 once both are in my possession.
I'm at an average electronics level, can't design but I do what I can repairs, mods, some clone builds. I can read schematics, do some trouble shooting, that sort of stuff. I love knowing the how & why behind things & am definitely interested in electronics. Maybe go back to school at some point? Much respect for people building gear! :pedallove
