Favorite Wah - specific and general

One problem Ive had with wahs is that they usually favor the EQ of one pickup - great with neck pups but just 'off' with the bridge etc.....

anyone found a wah that works with the whole range...?

I've tried most of what's out there. Wah is perhaps my all-time favorite and most important type of effect. The only one I've ever really liked is the Area 51, from Dan Albrecht in Michigan. I've used Dunlop (various models, including the 535Q), Fulltone, Teese, Budda, Vox, Keeley Mello Wah (modded Vox), etc., etc. ... and was never happy, least of all with the Keeley.

After growing extremely frustrated, I tried Area 51, as he has a money-back guarantee. I paid for the extra tweaking options, too. All told, it was about $300, comparable to what you'd pay for a Teese RMC3. It's the best wah pedal I've ever played up to this point, hands down, by a mile. There are still things about it that don't totally do it for me, but I guess I've given up trying to find a wah that will sound like what's in my head. I could be crazy, you know.

Of all I've tried, the Area 51 is easily the best-sounding, and most well-behaved with different pickups, etc. I think it could very well be "the wah" for many people. I just think a lot of folks don't know about Dan's stuff yet. I'd recommend it without reservation.

I hear many wonderful things about Scotty's ProAnalog Supa Quack ... never heard one in person or played through one, though.

Wah is one plave my knowledge is weak --- Ive had a 535Q that I really liked, and I still really like the Wizard wah and its probably the best overall for all pickups...

I have a modded old vox the George Blekas did and its killin for neck pickups.....

and I have the VCF Wah which is perfect for bridge pups ...

I guess its just where its centered or something.....

Like DocRock, I've never been happy with any wah, always something that's not right, so I'd be all over a BJF Wah, either one that was just right, or a highly tweakable version.

I'm pleased with my RMC Wizard Wah. I've had it on my board for a month or so now and it's been really nice to play. Maybe I'm easier to please, though.

I've been through a vintage Cry Baby, two Dunlops, a Fulltone, and two RMC's. The last Teese was the Wizard. I have gone back to the Fulltone. It got that sound I hear in my head. I'm really happy with my wah. At least for now.

I too have been on the perfect wah hunt for a while. I have gone thru a few. I usually have an auto and manual wah to help with solo and rythym situations.

So far for manual wahs,,,the Supa is dupa, and is not just hype. Hard to find a flaw with it, very consistent with both p/u's when compared to others.

I would like to check out the Area 51 someday. I still like to keep a few around to compare even though I stay VCF ,Supa these days...

Try the Fulltone now. you will be surprised. It's not cool, just good.

Try the Fulltone now. you will be surprised. It's not cool, just good.

Well I have had a few unpopular wahs. Actually my good band mate has a Fulltone,,its not bad. I just figured there had to be a good RMC3 out there with all the various models/guts and tweakability.

I have had bad luck with vintage wahs, and had a few different 90's Crybabys and they always broke in some form, maybe we just use them alot.

I tried some Roger Mayer wah kits, and other Teeses. I am not a collector of wahs, the ones pictured are really all in use except for the pic wah.

Basically, when I hear something I like, I think its "cool" and I use it. Not in use, out the door. Any one need a pic wah?
