Just curious if anyone else uses the R with anything?

For a bit over the top sound. I keep going back to PPF>R.
Having the R on and then kickin the PPF seems to provide some more grainyness and and bring out the R's upper mids. Also it really makes my amp go nuts.

I also like these settings by themselves, which makes it easier...
Something like:
PPF:
V 11
N 8
F 12

into

R:
V 10
R 9
D 12

The R is amazing into the HB and very interactive,,, its amazing to have t hat much raging distortion going on and still be so dynamic and touch sensitive and controllable....

Rrrrrr, something about the HB sweet spots.
I find myself trying to make room to add another OD.
Maybe its a coincidence,,but the HB really seems to bond with the "red" bjfs , (RRB, DRD, R, LRT).
R is still outstanding on its own too.

KLON + Model R is pretty incredible. By now, I am sure many already know this, though.

The Model R is another one of those rarities i'd love to try one of these days! From what I hear its quite a gem.

I find it to be a more polished, open DRD. I played through a DRD and could not jive with it (I would always trend towards my MH instead), but the Model R is a different story. It has more rawness while retaining a marshall-type vibe. I know the DRD is among the most famous of the BJF line, but I am not a child of the 70's and 80's. Perhaps that is why I leaned more toward the MH. In comparison to the CH2, the MR has a thick mid-section with lots of gain. The CH2 seems to have a bit more bite and can clean up much better. In fact, the low-gain settings of the CH2 are quite massive and can create ethereal ecstacy with the right modulation and delay.

SoCal is always welcome for sharing BJF tones and having a pedal party. By the way, if anyone is local to SoCal, hit me up.

I find the KLON, or any transparent, treble boost to really open up the mid range of the Model R that much more. As is, the Model R is fabulous for gain.

The MR stacks well with a FLT (or a SHOD for that matter!)

I keep kicking myself when I hear about the MR.

Had one that I got direct from Custom Sounds -- thought it sounded awful and sold it for pretty much what I bought it for (i.e. way below "market value") only to later realize I was running it after a buffer and that's probably why it sounded terrible as the impedence knob or whatever it was seemed to have no effect on the sound.

Sigh...

I have run a SBEQ'ish into the Model R with really good results, kind of pushes it into a musical feedback thing in a really controllable way. I have also used an EQ pedal on the other side of it to help adjust things when running the MR after a buffer.

I was playing with some guys two weeks ago and with a bazillion drives on the board I brought, I played the MR more than any. One thing that is so cool about the MR is how well it responds to rolling back the volume on your guitar. For a drive with so much "oomph" I think that is very impressive. Also, Justin's post from another MR thread helped me discover the benefits of using it with the gain set lower.

To me, the MR can hit almost the "brown sound" like VH or George Lynch.

I said this to someone once before, but I'll say it again. If the vikings had played electric guitar, the MR would have been their go to drive pedal!

Just curious here: Why was the Model R limited to only 99 units and why were only 40 ever built? What's the story behind this one?
