Limited parts availability I think.

And I believe there are more than 40 but still less than 99 (my guess would be ~60-65 have been made so far from the SN's I have seen)

My favorite combo is the Model R into the Tim. Tim is an incredible pedal to stack into as it is highly dynamic and has great EQ options.

Between my Timmy, WIIO V1 and SBEQ, what more EQ options could I possibly need?

Great idea, Justin.

Sounds like you have everything you need. Does that mean you will stop buying dirt and EQ pedals? Probably not. I think most of us on some level enjoy the pursuit of tone. Even if we are agonizing over it, we are still drawn here in our search.

It is funny that you say it was a good idea because I found the stack by accident. The Tim pedal is very transparent and because I run the gain so low I forgot it was on. When I opened my volume up to 10 and kicked on the Model R, I immediately got a rush as I realized I had found a very useable lead tone.

People often talk about how the Tim pedal is so transparent and cite its EQ as the main reason. I think its transparency is actually much more about how it maintains the sounds envelope through each stage: attack, decay, sustain, and release. I believe this to be true because I can set the EQ settings on the Tim to a variety of settings yet it still feels like my guitar tone. In my opinion, envelope is such an under-appreciated quality of the sound we are looking for.

I believe BJFE pedals sound so incredible because they have amazing envelope characteristics. Other pedals can't be EQed to sound like them because the envelopes still wouldn't match. All of the BJFE pedals I have played have had unique and highly musical envelope characteristics. These dynamic traits are what separate the BJFE and Bearfoot pedals from so many other brands.

Since this thread is about the Model R, I want to add my thoughts on the pedal. After a year of using it as my main drive, I must say it is my favorite pedal out of all I have ever owned. I love its envelope, EQ, and harmonic properties above those of every stomp I have played to date. It isn't a pedal that does everything but it is my favorite for what it does. Some people say it is too dark but I think it is great at stage volumes. I play it through a Matchless 30/15 and it sounds fantastic just above “apartment volume” and up. Because of the way our ears have different sensitivities to frequencies depending on volume, I find the Model R gets better and better as you turn up. If it still doesn't have the right EQ for you, just stack it into a Tim pedal and it will come out the other side still sounding like your Model R.

Lots of truth here Justin - to me the Model R reminds me alot of early Van Halen and hard rock records in that you could never turn them up TOO loud - they are EQd and compressed in a way that just follows the curve right up - even at deafening levels it still sounds inviting.

And yes its all about the feel - making a pedal that distorts is pretty easy - getting one that correctly balances that dirt with the appropriate EQ and compression is not easy and thats Bjorns genius - balance and taking the inappropriate sounds out, so the whole thing is usable.

the Model R was the beginning of the BJFe Customshop - BJ only had enough of those particular parts to make about 100 model Rs and so it didnt make any sense to make a full BJFe model out of it, but it might be fun to make a limited amount of them for people that can use them.....(youll noitce the paint job vaguely reminds of an Eddie guitar paint job)

My new favorite combo is the Model R with the Ascend side of my custom Ascend/Descend from Heavy Electronics. It can function as a clean boost or treble booster with the flick of a switch. Both options produce extremely musical tones. I am sure any quality clean boost or treble boost would work well.

Here is a pic of my custom Ascend/Descend: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid= ... =3&theater
