Sparkling Yellow OD Research Thread (MysToury)

I agree that the SYOD has a great tone on its own....played it WFO tonight in the privacy of a vacated home.....I'm afraid I lost a bit of hearing but it really does 'sparkle' at volume...

and, here's a couple of combo's to consider:

1) SYOD at 9/10/3, left to right, into CAF at 9/10/9....not a grit or grind really but I'd call it grainy and "light metallic"....at any rate, it was pleasing, not harsh as I would have suspected so long as you don't crank the Fuzz on the CAF. I'd label it somewhere between fuzz and distortion...perhaps "fuzzortion"

2) SYOD as above with EGDM at 9/1/9, left to right, produced a very "bouncy" sound....if you know the EGDM sound, just "spring" it up a notch to something a little "spongier" and you get the gist...again, a very pleasing sound utilizing the gain of the SYOD and the "flavor" of the EGDM at lower distortion....

My rig is one I would consider bright as well....PRS Custom 22 (generally the Treble or outside coils) into THD Flexi 50 with THD 2X12 and Classic Lead 80's...I run everything through my PGC and generally keep it on (12/1/11) and, based on recent recommendations regarding "rediscovering the mids", I have the MDEQ at the end of the chain, on, with the bass at 1, mids at 2:30, and treble backed off to 10 o'clock...generally on as well. If I want to push the whole train a little harder, I run a Klon at the beginning with low gain, treble at 11, and output just above unity.

The hour is late and the spirit is weary; there will certainly be more combinations forthcoming...only wish I perhaps had a couple other brands of pedals to "push around" with the SYOD to see how much it embellishes other products....perhaps there are some threads brewing out there regarding this very subject..............

I'll have to try some of those stacks! I'm not a very scientific stacker in terms of tracking pedal settings, but as I've randomly tried different combinations I definitely agree the SYOD to the EGDM is very tasty!

Well, the SYOD> Folk Fuzz is instant Hendrix ( with my Strat and Marshall )...i love that combo!!!....

I played a bit more with the Sparkling Yellow this weekend and I'm loving it. The settings I've used most recently are Volume 9 O'clock, Treble 8 O'clock and Drive 2 O'clock. Sings on solos and rich and mean for rhythm.

Hi all,

Well, my SYOD has just arrived at work. I have to say that it looks spectacular-amazing job Donner. There's a depth to the finish that the photos don't capture.

As for Bjorn's work, well I'll get to actually hear it tonight and Wednesday at rehearsal, and at gigs on Friday night and Saturday.

Friday night will be my first gig with my 65 Amps London, a little club gig. Saturday is outdoor festival show and I'm gonna run The London and my AC30.

I'm hoping that the SYOD in various stacks with my Timmy, Telenordia TA-100 and RC Booster through the 65/AC30 should get me some nice rich yet defined Alt-Country/Americana tones.

Ok I will also confirm that the Mystoury Pedal in the MP Meatball IS in fact the SYOD

So if you tried that one, thats what this one sounds like and your welcome to throw your opinion in here if you like.....

Noted the photo of the SYOD on the Donnerbox web site now; very nice!!

Had just a bit of time to run the SYOD into the Antelope Lovelight OD over the weekend. The Lovelight is a mild OD, Honey Bee'ish, but a bit more bashful. Ran the SYOD at 9/10/2, the Antelope at medium gain and volume settings and, when "pushed", it wasn't bashful anymore. I like the HoneyBee better but, the Antelope runs a bit "faster" when chased by the SYOD. Since I can't afford tow HB's at present, it makes for a good back up.

Tried the SYOD into the Folk Fuzz as well. Logic would lead me to believe that, if I set the Fuzz settings very low on the CAF and dimed on the Folk Fuzz, all else being equal, the sound produced especially when driven by the SYOD would be about the same. Au contraire; they are quite different. Both good but very distinct. I imagine Hendrix would have liked either combo.....

i hate to restate myself,... but the SYOD is the ulitmate stacker pedal!!!...i tried some of the stacks you all have mentioned previously( EGDM, PPF, HB, and the Eternity )...they all sounded so much better stacked with the SYOD.... like they were lacking before, LOL....it should be tagged/sold with the ultimate stacker pedal moniker....as well as a Killer Overdrive...

have you tried it with the CAF? if so any way to get some sound clips up??
