MP Ruby Red vs RRB/LRT

Postby nibus » Mon Sep 07, 2015 4:38 pm

From the description, the Mad Professor Ruby Red Booster is supposed to have both the Red Rooster Booster and Little Red Trebler circuits integrated.

How well does it pull this off? Any first hand experience here?

Excellent, buffer-switchable pedal. Probably not the maximum trebliness of the LRT, but it does allow for significant treble boosting (and even dampening!). The ability to play with different combinations of "volume" and "gain" is also fantastic -- like having a "master volume" pedal in-front of the amp.

When run strictly as a boost: wonderful. I also enjoy running the gain full bore to achieve a pleasing crunch tone that works nicely with single-coil guitars.

Very cool, versatile pedal at an accessible price point. I have one I use as a "back-up" I could sell your way if you have interest.

Cheers.

The MP RRB is amazing.

The mast volume really makes in like the channel 2 of the zvex super duper but in a single pedal.

I know they have come out with a smaller pedal that does that, but the little bit of treble mixed in with the two is great!

I actually have sold both my Klons KTRs and klones because the MP RRB just does that clean boost/buffer thing 99% the same perhaps 1% better.

just my 2 cents

I use fender amps, and as much as I loved the SBEQandBPB they just didn't have that little bit of gain/compression that the RRB is capable of.

Just what I needed to hear, and just what I intended to use it for. Plus it's much smaller than most Klones.

Picked up a Ruby Red and tried it out last night.

The main issue I have is with headroom. I can't figure out how to dial it in without getting any clipping from humbuckers.

Other than that it sounds great, similar top-end as a Klon on clean.
