So, I am getting back into things after a divorce etc.

Playing a Les Paul Studio Deluxe (490R/BB) or 60s Classic Tele -> Egnater Tweaker 15

I have tried
- OCD (v4+ I don't know exact version I didn't have it long but it had red LED)
- Zvex Box Of Rock
- Rat

I liked them all OK but still not exactly what I am looking for.
I am only playing through a 12" speaker combo so I know I will not have the wall of sound but they just don't seem deep or thick enough.
I don't want to say anemic but not full and just not exactly what I want.

Would the MR maybe do the trick?

Have you considered a Bearfoot Dyna Red Distortion? The 4-knobbed version is very versatile for dirt.

If I could get one for a lower price.
Some of them are out of my price range.

I play in the P&W at church BUT it is not all I play.
I play anything from Classic Rock, Blues Rock, I am not a "metal guy" but that doesn't mean I don't mess around with that sound from time to time.

Dyna Red 4k has the M knob so you can tailor it to your amp .... you might some on sale at some dealers now

and you might consider the Model H and EGDMs as well ....

I agree with Donner. Honestly, I always liked the MRD better with a Strat than anything. For your style/setup, I think DRD4k, Model H, EGDM ... all worthy of a look rather than MRD.

I had one on loan for a small stretch and really liked it. I felt it had a big muff kind of thing going on. I find the MRD to be tighter, but still had that kind of big thick smooth distortion/fuzz thing. This is a pedal I will likely buy for myself somewhere down the road.

I found a used MRD for 99 bucks at Guitar Center a few months ago and it's a fantastic distortion pedal. Unlike other JCM-800 sounding pedals like the Crunchbox, the MRD is super quiet. You don't hear the white noise "swoosh" that you hear with pedals like the Crunchbox. Plus the presence control is super useful for dialing it in with your rig. At 99 bucks, it was a steal (PCB version), but I would gladly pay $169 if I had to!

I had a HW MRD for a while... loved it!

I tried the Bearfoot Dyanas too and the MRD seemed thicker and more aggressive to me. Didn't have them at the same time.

I ended up sticking with my Keeley Rat for that kind of tone because it had a certain lo fi character to it that the Reds didn't. And that's just the tone i'm after... more grungey than the tradition marshall stack tone.
