Has anyone ever been interested in a high gain version of the Honey Bee. After playing through this pedal in a tour box, I was amazed by it's tone. Just didn't have enough gain for my tastes.

Bjorn, is it possible to make a high gain Honey Bee? Maybe even close to the gain of the Dyna Red?

well the simplest way is to run the DRD into the HB - one of my favorite stacks

HB plus clean boost before or after (depending on what you're looking for..more gain or louder) works for me...

I can stack all day long... But I like self contained pedals.... I think a high gain Honey Bee would be sweet! With it's slightly scooped sound, bootylicious booty... would be smoken! On my pedal boards I have one OD (always the Eternity) and then a distortion pedal and then a fuzz... three pedal spots... The only one that really ever changes is my distortion spot, 90% of the time its my DRD... the other bit is a Keeley RAT.

I think a higher gain Honey Bee could take that distortion spot pretty well when needed.

well the 'sound' of the HB is that of a small amp going into distortion -- a bigger amp doing that sounds different like the DRD etc.....

so it sounds like what you want is the HB with more distortion - which would be a stack....

yes actually this has been considered for a long time as some people want an HB with more treble and more distortion - even have a name and paint job for it but really it wouldnt be a Bee anymore

That's what I do (HBOD into ZVex SHO). Donner is probably right ... you're looking for something more like the DRD.

I originally thought the same thing...

I didn't realize the full potential of the Honey Bee until I got my RRB and ran it before it. When I got my PGC and ran that before it too I was floored! I understand the self contained thing too, but I have to say that the HB was born for stacking like no other pedal I have. I loves fuzzes before it too! My new CAF is SICK before it!!!!!!!!!

It really has all the gain and sweetness it needs with a boost in front of it.

of course another way to do it is to put the HB in a loop with whatever jacks it up the way you like it... then with one stomp you can get that sound in and out....

...or just leave your PGC and RRB on all the time like me
