... you guys might be interested to know we have been working on a lower gain version of the EGDM ... the EG behaves just like a Vox as they are gainy and quick since they dont have any neg feedback ....
and I cant imagine anyone needing more treble unless you have pretty dark speakers - but you can always run it at 18v if you do .... its much easier to run something thats 9v at 18v than the other way around
copying the tube circuit and subbing jfets is a great idea ... but it leaves out the transformer and speaker effects ... yes the EGDM is a full emulation of the whole amps response.
Yes if you want less out of the EGDM - turn your guitar volume down a bit and if you want more headroom - run it at 18v (or anything between 9 and 18v)
anyway as there has been a small but vocal group of feedbackers who want a scaled back EG ~ we are on it.... and we will do some research/ tweeking on
http://www.bjfe.org if you want to have input .... peace
What say you ?????

This sounds interesting. I'd like to be a part of it. Is the aim to provide a pedal that is voiced exactly the same but with lower gain, or are you aiming at something darker?

No not darker ............. it occurs to me that some people want the SOUND of vox, but not necessarily the full FEEL ....the reason many people love them is the same reason many avoid them .... they can sort of take over ..... and the EGDM does all that --- but this would be something that would be more vox flavor laid on your amp and retaining your amps feel but the SOUND of vox.......... instead of taking over and changing everything ...........
and yes this is in ADDITION to the EGDM ~ not to replace it.

I rarely run my EGDM past noon on the drive. Most time it's between almost off and 10:30. Rolling the volume on the guitar down is one thing but there is a treble loss associated.
So this would make the EGDM closer to the Menatone TBIAC will it Donner? Since I have the Bearfooot EGDM and the TBIAC I'd be curious to compare them to your low gain EGDM.

Hmm... The expanded description has piqued my interest... Are we talking BJFe or Bearfoot research? Either way, I guess I'm in.
I also run the gain on my EGDM at between 9 and 12 o' clock.

... oh good point BEARFOOT Egdm .......
Yeah the current BF EGDM I think is the best thing out there for the range it has .... and yes it will stay as is .....
But it also is more powerful than even the BJFe EGDM because of the hotter trannies ....
So really this would dial it back to the BJFe range and a bit below.......
Thing is for those that just want Vox cleans - Thats what the PGComp is ~ the kind of amp/tranny/speaker compression you get from a driven Vox..... and the SBEQ takes that even farther by sculpting the speaker EQ .....
This might even be something like the SY 1 and 2 situation ......

I guess the question is ---- what would you really change about the BF EGDM ?
Is it just that for some the volume jumps up to quick ??
Or is it that there is too much initial distortion ?

This may be way out there...
I would like to take the old 3 knob (Vol, Voice, Dist) and add a germanium or silicon booster in front using the 4th knob. I do not know if a Pre-Gain knob would do the trick. To me, the greatest Vox tones are a Rangemaster > Vox (non-top boost).
The other thing I found comparing my old BJFE 3k to the Bearfoot is the BF is a bit smoother so it actually feels & sounds like less gain until you pass 1:30 to 2 o'clock on the Dist knob.

I don't know about the EGDM but I would be all over a lower gain MH. I loved the one I had for a time but it was always way too much grind for me, I wished that the existing sound with the gain knob off was closer to having the gain around noon on a potential Model H.

I felt like the EGDM had too much of that vox congestion and compression to use in my rig. It sounded huge on its own but stacked and at my normal amp settings it was way too much. When I had the EGDM I ran the gain around 10:00, so I suppose a lower gain version would have served me better. But, I agree that a lower gain MH would be more interesting to me. When I had the MH4K I ran it withthe gain literally off aand then turned up only til I heard sound. And it was pretty killer, but hard to dial in with it jumping up to shred gain so quick.
