A few questions abt the HBOD

After doing some research on the internet, i have found tht the BJFE HBOD really fits my needs. I have some questions before getting it since its really expensive.

I have tried the bf version (HB, homey, beest). The hbod seems to be the most transparent/dynamic out of the three (homey and beest seems a bit darker and less dynamic). How does the gain of the bjf version compare to the bf. i would like a little bit more gain yet retain its transparency. Are there any pedals tht match my requirements or do i have to get the HBOD deluxe (way too expensive than i can afford TwT) and adjust the internal trimmer.

Having played the BF and BJFe side by side, the gain a just a bit more ratty and looser on the BJFe version but they are very much the same pedal with the same level of gain. If you need a bit more gain, the HBOD takes very, very well to being goosed into more drive by a boost pedal. The higher the volume on the boost going into the Bee, the more gain you will get.

Lovepedal Amp 50 is affordable and works great for me.

I've tried several clean boosts, and they work well with the HB, but the extra dirt from the Amp 50 @ 12-2 o'clock translates to some tasty sustain without corrupting my tone.

Another pedal you can look for is the Bearfoot Honey Beeatch. It was released in celebration of Bearfoot's one year anniversary and it has a girl standing under a tree with white flowers and has 4 knobs. It has the 3 knobs of the original Bee, but has a separate treble knob which is really useful for single coil players. I always felt that by the time I got the bottom end dialed in on the Nature knob there was too much treble. Especially when stacking.

The best way to get more gain is to hit it with a Pine Green Comp, Red Rooster booster, SBEQ, Purple Humper or pretty much any BJFE pedal! I also like it with certain treble boosters.

Another way to get a bit more dirt is to run the HBOD at 7 to 8 Volts.

I was always trying to get more dirt out of the Bee, but I have noticed since getting the Honey Beeatch I am running the Gain at around 1 o'clock and have the Volume around noon.

It depends on what Bjorn decides to build and where you are on the waiting list. I have been on the list for as little as 2 months and I am still waiting for certain items for well over 2 years.

The best way is to keep tabs on the used market here and on TGP. The values bounce around a bit and may just a few hundred dollars on certain items that are somewhat rare and do not come up for sale all the time.

I hit mine with a SBEQ and also a EP-PRE by ClinchFX. That's the great thing about the Bee, it's so input sensitive that you can actually get quite a bit of drive out of it if you need to but if you don't boost it it can stay fairly clean with a light attack. Still my favourite OD after many years.
