Ok, sorry that was cruel. It does help a lot for me to have it on top as I use different amps all the time and that combined with different playing volumes it really helps to have the trimmer on top! The funny thing is I thought my EGDM and EGDM4k sounded exactly alike when the 4k arrived, but now they seem to sound rather different to me with the 3k having a bit more beef. It is minor and is most noticeable at lower Drive levels. But, since I very rarely turn the Drive knob beyond 11 o'clock it is really noticeable.

Totally agree about the extra beef with my old 3 knob vs 4 knob. I prefer the flexibility of the 4 knob, but whoever has my old 3 knob got something magical.

Hmm... That's interesting. Maybe I'd wanna just find a four knob to directly compare, instead of attempting a blind upgrade. I actually keep the gain on mine at nine o'clock or just a bit above... Wouldn't want to lose any beef. :)

Man decisions decisions! I got the email as well for 4knob & bought it. Don't have it yet but thought its a rarer opportunity to get one. I had to buy my EGDM used for pretty high price & figure if I found out later I wanted a 4knob after missing offer buying used would be even higher price still.
I can't afford to keep both, & would love to try both side by side. Don't think I can, I set up a sale for my 3k but haven't shipped out yet, always refund. I just think it will be a few weeks until I actualy have the 4k. I think I'm going to go for it though.
Do you guys think the difference in sound you hear is just related to your 3k being older?
I've heard people say they preferred one 3k over another before several times. Maybe each is slightly different? I know my 3k is more recent version too so I possibly would hear no change. This was a tough call, I love my EGDM. I like access to the Trimpot for amp switching a lot. And as far as gain, I run from 11 up depending. I don't know if I could ever be unhappy with an EGDM. Those that own 4k, you generally like pedal a lot?

I'm interested to hear the EGDM 3k and 4k side by side (and will be able to in a few weeks). This an interesting topic because I had a similar experience with the MH 3k and 4k, I thought my ears were playing tricks on me but that intuition (whether false or not) made me decide to part with my MH 4k and stick with the 3K.

I wouldn't relate the EGDM 4k vs standard to Bearfoot model H 3k vs 4k. The EGDM already had the treble control built into circuit just only inside as trim pot. So the 4th knob isn't a "new" control. Now from what people have said there still are differences but unclear if it's because the EGDM standard version they compared was older kinda like older HB has differences.
I assume the BF model H 3k had no trim pot inside. So it's more like the added mid control on Dyna Red.
I haven't compared yet myself (I wish), but the EGDM 4k should be very very much same as recent model standard 3knob EGDM. really just changing & relocating a Trimpot to a external pot. That's a minor change, & as described done just for flexibility.
The DR or MH extra knobs are new functions.
Anyway, I don't think my timing will work out with EGDM 4k so that I can hear both mine together. Hoping 4k is just as killer as my current pedal...

One other thing; as far as a minor change I didn't want to come across that it's not important. Just that in a good way it's not affecting design and in relation sound much.
I don't build pedals. Its gotta be super tough with pedals having so many subtleties for Bjorn to have that level of consistency.

I hear ya rasputin1176, sorry to bring a MH discussion to the thread. when I get settled and can test the EGDMs side by side I'll chime in. cheers

In my personal experience, my 3K EGDM was much beefier than the 4K. Still an EGDM, but there was some girth missing...
