I can say that the LGW is of course Tubescreamer based with an op-amp circut. The LGW has more bass and lower mids if you want it to than the SY.

The SYOD is focused more in the upper range with upper mids and sparkling highs. It doesn't have as much gain and could serve well as a rhythm drive, boost for an already driven amp or boost for solos into another pedal, etc. It does not have alot of bass and is brighter.

That's a start. I'm sure some of the cats who own it can expand on this further.

Do you have one of these, Jamie? Or did you get to check one out?

I'd say you've described it pretty well.

Hi Jussi,

I would not compare the SYOD to the LGW. Two great pedals for sure, but very different animals. You can read my detailed impressions of the LGW elsewhere on this forum if you do a search.

Depending on how you set it, this SYOD pedal can get very Brian May-like. I'm careful about putting too many labels on these sorts of things, but it definitely has that glassy, shimmering, upper-midrange sparkle that one would come to expect from an anthemic Queen guitar solo. Can be set to be very cutting through a dense stage mix, that's for sure!

It is an excellent rhythm OD that had its origins as a custom prototype that was built to go as a companion to my Dyna Red. Being familiar with my tastes and playing styles, combined with my love for EL-34 based British rock amps, Bjorn very kindly put together this pedal for me, the Dynamic Amber Overdrive. (The SYOD is the same circuit, different color box.) This was July 2006. Since then, there has been some talk and some buzz, and BJ was kind enough to make a couple more for some other folks. He has said that he is so pleased with it that he should one day like to make one for his own personal use, LOL.

While it excels at strong rhythm, it is also an excellent mid-gain lead pedal. It is more open and less compressed than the Dyna Red, making it a perfect mate.

I use it as my "classic" overdrive, when I want more 60's-early 70's tones. The Dyna Red covers my "classic" distortion sounds, 70's and onward. Feeding the OD into the DRD and stacking them gives over-the-top 80's arena rock guitar hero tone.

I hope this helps, and if it sounds like something that would suit your needs, I hope you can get one. I love mine!!!

Yes, seems to be that I have to be on my knees for SIR BJ on SYOD, IF I ain?t lucky.
On my BJ rig (HB #05, FF #03, DBD #053 + Budda Wah, Klon, Fulltone DejaVibe and old Vox AC30 w/ THD 160hm + few vintage Teles & VOS Gibson SG) SYOD would make a nice home.

- Doc: how?s my rig? Would SYOD suit my rig? What would be the place? Nowadays: Tele - Budda wah - DejaVibe - Klon - HB - FF - DBD - Vox. Still sometimes Hot Cake meets my board..

My HB I consider as my "wife", ?cause she?s a sure keeper - FOR SURE.

Hi Jussi,

This seems like you have a very nice and workable set-up going. I actually have DBD 054, the next one after yours.

I think SYOD shall make a good fit for you, and if you can get one...I'd say try adjacent to your HBOD...you can decide for yourself if you like to use SYOD on its own or in a stack with the HBOD. Try HBOD > SYOD or SYOD > HBOD and see which you prefer (if any). You may find that the SYOD by itself is just fine...though one of the things that makes the BJF pedals so much fun is all the stacking possibilities. They all seem to play so nicely with each other!!!

Keep us posted and let us know if you end up being able to get one of these beauties.

First 'batch' of Customshop SYODs is done and BJ is mailing them to me Tommorow !!!

Ill do the drawing tonight soon as I get names on paper......
