That's really interesting. It almost makes me wonder if pairing one of these in the bridge with Lollars in the middle & neck might be cool. In my strat (and in basically ever strat I've ever played) I usually don't use the bridge p'up. I am really happy with the neck & middle p'ups (Lollar Blackface) but maybe this would make the guitar more versatile overall.

Good thought. And Steve's review intrigues - definitely curious to play these, although I can't imagine ever getting the chance (have pickups I love in both Strats and another set I'm eager to try waiting for me to build a guitar for them). Too bad a pickups tourbox just isn't practical.

I use the bridge PU as much as the others on my Strats (I have Lollar Blonde in one Strat, Slider '57s in the other). Both Strats have all PUs on the middle tone control and the bottom tone control replaced with a blend pot for bridge/neck combo. Standard Strat wiring, with the bridge PU no tone control, doesn't work for me (and frankly, seems kinda dumb); I usually roll the tone back a bit on the bridge PU. I have a feeling more guys would use the bridge PU if they had tone control.

I actually love the Lollar Blondes on gainier settings, but my sense of hi-gain might be rather tame compared to others here. Not entirely sure what Steve means by will make a strat go head to head with a les paul.

well what i meant is that on my strat (and i use lollar blackface PU) the heavy distortion guitar just doesn't work. Its way too noisy, harsh to the ear and overall you don't get that nice crunchy distortion you do with a les paul. Thats what I meant. The Lollars PUs are also overtly bright when combined with certain pedals (the SYOD v1 comes to mind).

But if the lollars work for your distortion settings by all means use them. I just find them impossible to get that nice rock sound when using high gain pedals like the CH2 or even the MH at higher settings. They sound frail to me by comparison to a les paul and way too noisy to my liking. Now for the cleans and with drives like the HB, MG, etc.. they are heavenly
