Green Day

What a way to start off the week! Found 2 new shiny green pedals from Sweden in my mailbox:

I've been wanting an EGDM for the longest time and my turn finally came!

And I have always been curious about the Pine Green Compressor.

First impressions: EGDM- just wow! Before this, my favorite BJF dirt pedals have been my early v2 Model H and Pink Purple Fuzz [also own recent vintage Dyna Red and Honey Bee], but the EGDM gets my vote now!

Backing the guitar volume down to 7 gives a nice crunch with power chords, turning it up to 10 yields glorious sustain.

My favorite settings are with distortion at either extreme- either at 8 or 9 o'clock for a little sparkle, or cranked all the way for rocking distortion.

My one nitpick: the voice control doesn't seem to change the tone much, even from one extreme to the other. At least it doesn't affect the tone anywhere near to the way the corresponding control does on the Model H, Dyna Red, or Honey Bee.

Now- on to the PGC.

I am not a compressor guy. The only compressor I ever bonded with was the Barber Tone Press.

I figured if the PGC did not work for me, I could easily sell it for a princely sum with the way current demand is.

But this is a keeper. I like it always on, with compression around 11 AM.

Tried it before the EGDM and tried it after it- both are good, but if I had to choose, I would keep it before distortion.

What I really need is one of those doo hickeys that let you switch the order of a pedal in a chain by flipping a switch- any suggestions on a particular brand/model?

Anyway, glad to see that :bjorn is still producing these models- go green!

Congrats! Sounds like you have two awesome new toys to test out!

Out of curiosity when did you get on the list?

I just looked back through my emails and I got confirmation of being added to the PGC list on 1/31/2011 -- so it's been a year now and I'm hoping my name comes up soon :coffeenews

It was so long ago that I cannot even remember!

I figured that they were no longer in production and gave up hope long ago.

To quote Gomer Pyle- surprise! surprise! surprise!

Dont forget the internal trimmer on the EG ..... and the voice control simulates what a vox does as you turn it up, the bottom gets a little flubby and it loses headroom and compresses more ...congrats!!!!

From the Man himself: :bjorn Here are some typical settings and information on how to get the most out of the EGD. The controls are:
- DIST, which sets the amount of distortion and sustain and harmonic content.
A good starting point for this control is a bit below center (eleven o’clock).
- VOICE, that sets the frequency range in which distortion shall take place. Turn CCW for more emphasis in the bass and low-mids and turn CW to soften output slightly.
Notice that most flat setting of this control depends on setting of DIST and that bass response can be enhanced through CCW rotation. This control is aimed to set pedal response throughout all settings.
Set VOICE almost full CCW with DIST in full CCW to begin with and unit can be used as a booster. Advance VOICE as DIST is advanced. It is recommended that some time is spent with the controls to get a feel for the interaction of the controls. As a rule VOICE and DIST go CCW and VOL CW or vice verse. In multiple-drive (chained pedals) systems EGDM usually works best early on in chain though some drive pedals work well at overloading EGDM.

Also try the EGDM at 9, 12 and 18 Volts for different tones. I mostly run mine with Volume around 8, Distortion around 10 - 11 and Voice 10 - 11 o'clock. IIRC my trimmer is exactly midway, but with my 4k I might go from 10:30 - 1:30 depending on the amp and the volume I play at.

My kids moved some knobs for me and I am now re-discovering the noon and clockwise Voice settings! The EGDM was my first pedal and the only one that never got bumped until the EGDM4K came along! They sound fantastic stacked, so get on the list for another! :pedallove

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions!
What happened was, that I was not sent a manual with the pedal, so I was not even aware of the internal trimmer or the nature of the Voice control.
But after posting, I found a manual here in the forum and downloaded it.
Looking forward to experimenting with the EGDM today!
Bobby D has asked me to do another pedal party here in SoFla sometime soon, so maybe Slim and I will put the Green Monsters through their paces!
By the way, how did you a get a 4 knob EDGM- are those available through Custom Sounds and These Go to Eleven, or are they research models?
What does the fourth knob do?

The 4th knob moves the trimmer to the top of the pedal. It helps me out a lot. I do not think many EGDM4K pedals were produced, but what do I know.

Cheers and congrats!
