I would love to see how this compares to a vintage Electro-Harmonix Small Clone.

sorry, i can't help with that. will certainly post a review once i played with it some more. not sure if i "get" the pedal or chorus in general yet.
only chorus i had before was a boss ce-5 (i think 5, not sure though), that i sold quickly because it wasn't my cup of tea at all.

So what's the word on this -- was it designed by BJ? Seems like leaving it off the production run would indicate not?

I've had some time with it. I have tried the recommended settings and some variations and it's a subtle effect and I like that, you almost cannot tell if it's on sometimes, but instantly tell when it's off, so you turn it back on. I like to set it for a slow chorus effect (speed on 12, blend and depth on 3 [o'clock]) or a rotary speaker kind of effect (speed on 5, blend and depth on 3 [o'clock]). It's the first Mad Prof effect I have played and I don't have the handwired ones to compare to, but this one is very well made. There are two pcbs inside, one holding the footswitch, jacks, and components and the other one holds the pots, led and components. the pcbs are connected via a cable strip. Looks very neat and it's a clean build. The circuit looks complicated, so it must be a lot of work to wire them. The thing works with a pt2399 and a compandor, so it's not a true analog chorus (I think it sounds very good, just something to consider for some people). Built like a tank does really apply here.

Only two things i don't like are the fact that even with the blend knob off the eq of the signal is different from the original signal, so there is a slight coloration of tone. The other thing is aesthetic: I don't really like the kind of knobs MP uses, i much prefer the BJF knobs or Davies 1400 but don't know if they'd fit. This is probably not a concern for most ppl though.

Yeah Id have to agree with you on the knobs Is the coloration good or bad ? would it be like a useful booster or just annoying ??

you can't use it as a booster, there is no volume knob. just a clean blend. kinda like the DBD. It's unity volume. The coloration is not bad, just a bit different from your original sound. I can't really express how though. maybe a bit middier? This might or might not be good or bad depending on your rig. just something to take into account.

Anyone else here been using the MP chorus? Any complaints?

Almost every chorus I've ever played won't get subtle enough, and usually imparts an excessively metallic quality to the sound that I do not like.

Currently using the Red Witch and pretty happy with it, but it has more features than I need and takes up more space than I like on the board; the MP Electric Blue might be just the ticket.

Jarmo Hynninen demo on youtube sounds great. Very tempting.

My favorite chorus is still the Dr. scientist Cosmichorus V2.1
That pedal can be dialed in any way I need and just sounds amazing. I love analog chorus!! Another pedal I will never sell.
