Good point Mike.
I dont think I made it clear that my BJF Sea Blue is non standard and is slower ...

The faster speed on my slow one is whats on the 'new' one --- there is an even slower speed which as Mike said would be too slow for some and thats the speed at which it begins to sound 'non minivibey' and why the standard one doesnt go that slow..... but it is possible....

the most slowest speed on mine I really love into distortion while soloing, but not as much when just clean strumming

Funny...it's all in the application and what you want to hear of course. When I first got my Sea Blue MV, I was maybe initially tweaked slightly about wanting it to go slower, but that faded away pretty quick because I was and still am quite stoked on the tone.

I currently am pretty content where it is, as I gravitate towards two speeds aside from the faster(and smaller cup) setting...whether playing clean or dirty, as I like to hear some motion to push and play off of rhythmically.

I think Donner hit on the head though...even though I don't even mentally equate the SBMV with ANY Uni-vibe clone, whenever I had a UV, the slowest rate would only be happening for distortion/overdrive/fuzz, and not even for a very long time(unless of course you are trying to cop a Trower vibe, or something similar), because at slow speeds, it HAS to be exaggerated somehow.

Playing clean on the slowest setting, and I feel like I'm waiting for the merry-go-round...I think the IDEA is cool, but limited.

A bit different thing with a more traditional phaser with heavier pronounced peaks that at slower settings sounds like it's going somewhere further out, rather than just waiting for the pitch to shift....same thing with flangers at more extreme settings that sound like they're going over a mountain peak before coming back, and I'm talking clean AND dirty.

I would agree with Mike, the waterbox vibe on the far right is a nice option for an overall slower range, but not too slow(or not too fast).

The clip is 2 posts above yours. :)

How the hell did I miss that? :confusedq :wave

I like the slowest one, but the far right one wasn't bad and I think is slow enough to get the vintage sounds. Sometimes it is hard to tell for sure until you use it though, but I gots no cash.

Donner,

Thanks for the vibe! I received it several days ago and today was the first time i was able to really try it and compare it alongside the standard one, as well as a Fulltone MDV-2. So far I have only used my start with single coils and have tried it before compressors and with no compressors.

The slower vibe to me captures almost 100% of the character of the standard MGMV, just at slower speeds with shallower swells. The slight difference in character that I notice is that the standard version has a bit more sparkle and is a tad more in-your-face. So far I have been able to set them both to sound somewhat similar [ (Standard MGMV = Vel 2:50, Level off, Amp. 3) and Slow MGMV= Vel. Full, Level 8:30, Amp. Full) ]. Notice that I had to increase the Level of the slower vibe a tad to mach the sparkle of the standard version. Guys, try these settings to see if you get similar results to me.

I also compared it to the MDV-2 and still totally different. This was to be expected though, cause I know Bjorn’s vibes are not based on Univibe. The MDV-2 to my ears can get sort of like a phaser when cranked and the swells are not nearly as lush. The Volume on the MDV-2 also has to be cranked in order to match the level of both MGMV, otherwise it sounds like it is underneath the guitar’s sound, or not so in-your-face.

Regarding compressors. At first I tried both vibes in front of three different compressors (one comp engaged at a time though) for a while. Then I turned comps off and much preferred it that way. I felt that the comps were limiting the range of the vibes a bit.

Alright this is what i have so far and look forward to hearing from others! I am sort of new to vibes and tried to use the best adjectives that matched what I was hearing. If you have any suggestions, or questions, let me know.

cheers!
