I dont think I made it clear that my BJF Sea Blue is non standard and is slower ...
The faster speed on my slow one is whats on the 'new' one --- there is an even slower speed which as Mike said would be too slow for some and thats the speed at which it begins to sound 'non minivibey' and why the standard one doesnt go that slow..... but it is possible....
the most slowest speed on mine I really love into distortion while soloing, but not as much when just clean strumming
Funny...it's all in the application and what you want to hear of course. When I first got my Sea Blue MV, I was maybe initially tweaked slightly about wanting it to go slower, but that faded away pretty quick because I was and still am quite stoked on the tone.
I currently am pretty content where it is, as I gravitate towards two speeds aside from the faster(and smaller cup) setting...whether playing clean or dirty, as I like to hear some motion to push and play off of rhythmically.
I think Donner hit on the head though...even though I don't even mentally equate the SBMV with ANY Uni-vibe clone, whenever I had a UV, the slowest rate would only be happening for distortion/overdrive/fuzz, and not even for a very long time(unless of course you are trying to cop a Trower vibe, or something similar), because at slow speeds, it HAS to be exaggerated somehow.
Playing clean on the slowest setting, and I feel like I'm waiting for the merry-go-round...I think the IDEA is cool, but limited.
A bit different thing with a more traditional phaser with heavier pronounced peaks that at slower settings sounds like it's going somewhere further out, rather than just waiting for the pitch to shift....same thing with flangers at more extreme settings that sound like they're going over a mountain peak before coming back, and I'm talking clean AND dirty.
I would agree with Mike, the waterbox vibe on the far right is a nice option for an overall slower range, but not too slow(or not too fast).
