It was designed to turn a strat into a 335 and thats a real good description of it.. singles to hummers, great into ODs.....
you can get a similar sound by turning the bass and treble down on the SBEQ and the level up a bit.
Its also really good to run a fuzz into as it shapes it into a useful fuzzy drive....

regarding it's development:
"Short on history of this model is that it was first made for a guy who wanted to have a preamp / mid booster that would make his strat compete with his ES335's and in most of his strats did have some midbooster built in but wanted something in a pedal that could go with vintage instruments."
There is no doubt it thickens up a single coil and makes it very humbucker-ish. I primarily use humbuckers and it takes these pickups further. I would describe it as steadily sweeping from (at full counterclockwise) a subtle lift to incremental fullness of the entire midrange frequencies with approximately 60 to 75% of the BPB amplification (at full clockwise). It can certainly add all the key eq characteristics of amplifiers known for thier midrange properties.(i.e. from 6973 output tubed Valcos, to Vox AC30's all the way to Marshalls and other British EL34 variants) It has a natural muscularity that can push gain stages further in a way(like all BJFE designs) that sounds (for lack of a better describer) amp-like. It is great stacked and on it's own. Placed before the SBEQ gives you an enormous amount of control over the full eq range as you do not have to subtract the Sea Blue's bass and treble controls to achieve mid boosting.
It is, without a doubt, one of the rarest limited edition BJFE's and should not be overlooked.

Jdandry got me thinking. How about a Bearfoot SBEQ Deluxe with a Purple Humper up front?
That would be fun.
