I'm getting pretty interested in a Purple Humper lately but I wanted to play around with one first. I do have a SBEQ though and I have heard that the PH can be approximated with the SBEQ. My question is: under what settings can a SBEQ approximate a PH?

Someone may jump in and correct me, but my understanding was that with the bass and treble both rolled off, you get a mid boost only and so it approximates the PH.

I wasn't sure if both were totally rolled off and what setting would that be equivalent to on the PH.

Hey Hulakatt, I compared my old SBEQ, with B & T at fully CCW and VOlume at about 3 o'clock verses the PH at about noon. When I did it with a Tele I think if you didnt have a PH to compare it to you would be happy with the SBEQ. But, with a Strat the PH turns it into a 335 and the SBEQ added mids yet it did not do the same thing. So, if you are a Strat player who wants to add a humbucker tone the PH is the way to go otherwise the SBEQ does add mids it just amplifies a different group of mids than the PH.

Hmm... Hey DonneR! What are the odds of a BF Humper? I think somewhere you mentioned more than one one-knob wonder in the works.

(I'm available for Research on the subject too btw...)

Sounds like a cool idea... A BF 'purple pumper one knob wonder'

*raises hand*

I noticed my PH is not gooped and it appears the transistor/chip/what ever is in a socket allowing for changing parts. What other parts fit in there and, if possible, what do they do to the sound?

Thanks.
