For a buffered pedal, such as the TS, to be effective as a buffer, doesn't it have to be on? I just redid my pedalboard and now have 12 pedals (8 are BJF) on it and it mostly killed the sound of my guitar. I'm thinking that I need a buffer to get the high end back. I have an OCD that I believe is buffered so was wondering if I would have to leave something like that on to get it's effect.

Jericho, did you notice a difference by having the Fulltone ’69MKII and the Skreddy Lunar Module before and after the buffer? If so, what are your thoughts? Why did you placed them after the buffer?

I have my pedals is this order:

Strat -> BBOD -> Mojo Vibe -> Fuzz Head -> PGC -> OCD -> LGW -> DRD -> Katana -> HBOD -> TOP -> DBD -> SBEQ -> Fender

all at 9 Volts

What kind of cabling do you use?

I have a relatively similar style of set-up in my rig, and the only buffered box I have is my KLON. I never have issues with tone loss. My guess is you should try cleaning the stomps of your BJFE devices. There is a video in this forum showing how to do that if you need instruction. Cleaning the stomp makes an incredible sonic difference. My guess is you should start there.

The cables from guitar -> pedal board and pedal board -> amp are pretty decent Lava Cables.

My pedal, patch cables are George L ... brass solderless plugs that I made a number of years ago. They are supposed to be good.

Thanks for the tip on cleaning the stomps. By that I assume you mean the on/off switch?

Yeah. You should just clean the "on/off switches" on all of your BJFE pedals to ensure they are clean.

If you want the r knob on the model r to actually work it needs to come before any buffered pedals.

Right and buffered pedals are always going thru the buffer even when they are not engaged ..... thats sort of what a buffer is - so your guitar always sees a similar impedance so there isnt a huge difference between on and off ....


this is also why running your guitar thru a board with 8 buffered pedals that is off still kills your tone and this is when and where the whole true bypass thing started ..... Baby Pink is my favorite booster and buffer ....

How's the "stomp" cleaning going? Have you had any success?

I concur. The BPB is a fantastic (and probably underrated) buffer. I only wish I had two!

The boost it provides is wonderfully transparent.

Dont hate me, but I know you lose a lot of volume, clarity and body with George L. My old instructor was over one day and after taking a little bathroom break he wanted to plug into my rig with his guitar to try the BJFEs. I was using Evidence Audio Melody patch cables at that time and he George L. He couldn't believe his sound was so big, so he plugged into his board through my amp and the difference was night and day! He went out the next day and bought a board full of quality patch cables from a local audiophile guy.

Before this I was using Fulltone soldered patch cables and they were pretty good, but I thought I would give the Lava solder less a try hoping to shorten my run and make more space on my board. I made about 4 cables and they worked great. I made 4 more and they also worked great, but I thought I was having a power tube issue as I had lost a lot of volume and body from the previous week. So, I put the Fulltones back on and it was the cables killing the sound!

I am slowly moving to Evidence Audio Lyric HG for straight runs and for the two tight curvy spots I am using the Reveal. Another huge jump in punch, volume, clarity (but not ice pick! and especially in the wound strings) and body verses the Melodys. JUst go the very best you can a little at a time as they don't wear out and if they do the owner, or even the store you buy from covers them with a lifetime warranty.

Also, the Siren II speaker cable is a huge jump in dynamics, clarity and harmonics over lamp cord.
