calling BBOD owners

Postby rockeroo » Mon Apr 18, 2011 11:54 am

I have looked for a decent demo of a BBOD, but I have yet to find one that provides enough information to understand it.

Would anyone be interested in producing a short clip? I would appreciate it tremendously. 8)

it's a rare one...i did a couple of demos with BBOD, but they were stacking demos with other pedals, and not a full fledged demo of the BBOD by itself. i wish i had another one here so i could do some more demos with it. the BBOD is really quite wonderful, and i loved the one i had here for a few weeks...

What could you compare the BBOD to? Any similarities with the HBOD?

I was hearing a much warmer and rich OD sound with the BB (as compared to the HBOD) ... less dynamics and high-end accentuation.

the BBOD is quite different than the HBOD to my ears. it was sort of an overdrive that crossed into distortion realms at higher gain levels.....but is actually a FUZZ at the heart of the circuit!

i wish there were more of them available, but it seems that most people that own them KEEP them :pedallove

hopefully i will be able to demo one again someday, and do more extensive testing with it.

it would be COOL if Bjorn and Donner could come up with a new version of that circuit for the new Bearfoot FX line!

Just received my BBOD about an hour ago and compared it to my HBOD.
Too me it is bordering on being a fuzz (with smooth fuzz face characteristics) but it is more of a distortion.
Does a great OD at low gain settings but its not as transparent as the HB.
Has quite a varied gain control from low-mid-high gains and the treble control is really cool for dialling in some sweet mids.
Seems to be louder than the HB as well.
Too me the BB and HB are fairly different pedals. Ill need to give it more time to really learn the in's and out's of it. unfortunately I don't have the facilities to do a video so sorry about that.

PS:- First post BTW so G'day!

Hi there!

I recorded this yesterday for you. But i had to keep the amp volume down more than usuall according to crappy computer mic. And somehow my macbooks photobooth program decided I would be better of in mirror..... :wtf:
This way the sound of me hitting the strings is also coming through to much but hope you like it.
Just as a quick demo.

Pardon the playing....

Great demo, and great playing. I appreciate you taking time to create and post one. It really means a lot to me. Hearing just about anything through a vibrolux is just wonderful. Those amps have such a lush sound. That is certainly one amp I would love to add to my arsenal (sometimes a bassman, bandmaster and deluxe reverb just don't cut it)!

I had never really heard a baby blue before now, and I think it sounds great. Thank you for sharing! (The mirror image is a nice touch :whistle it tricks the viewer in funny ways)

Yes that Vibrolux is a nice one. it´s been modded back and forth but is blackfaced on the normal chanel the one on the video. and one of the speakers is the celestion 10" V30. perhaps an unholy allians but it sound good.

One more thing about the BBOD is that it remains the VR:s spongyness. Both with guitar volume up and rolled of. It compresses the signal a bit but not too much. It´s picky with power and don´t stack very well i think. It´s also not the "to go to pedal" for all amps. it loves fenders but is not that good with others. It also prefers singelcoils before humbuckers, but cleaner buckers are ok.

When i play in my band i have another guitarist to fight with and the BB is quite shy. It can have problems with cutting through in a live situation but the soundman usually likes your sound anyway and will compensate you.... :laughing7

Sounds like the BBOD might be a pedal that compresses well. Is this the case? A little PGC & SBEQ could probably sweeten the BBOD up nicely.

The 10" speakers also appear to suit the pedal nicely.

Thanks again for doing this. I love to hear different gear and playing styles. Keep spreading the joy of music.
