When stacking dirt do you tend to go high gain > low gain or low gain> high gain?

I have a CHII coming and I don't know where to put it in the chain below. Generally I dont run my Drive knobs above noon so I can stack if I need more gain. I heard the CHII likes to run at higher gain, but having not played the pedal, and most demos are with humbuckers, I don't know what to expect.

I think it'll have more than enough gain on tap without stacking. I tried it with a couple pedals and found it's bread n' butter sound is all alone gain at 2 oclock and tone at 1 oclock.

But in general -- high gain > low gain with an exception here or there (ex: SYODv1 > v2)

I wish I had the Bludotone Bassman here. I saw Bobby D thought it would be best into a big amp and my little 5e3 is not a big amp.

Generally high>low, but with some exceptions if I'm trying to do something specific. I find that a lower gain pedal is just more likely to get overwhelmed and be less noticeable when run into a high gain pedal than the other way around.

I think though its more the character of the pedal than just the gain. If it really colors your sound or has a particular eq (HB, MH, BBBOD), I usually prefer it after more "transparent" pedals regardless of which distorts more.

For what its worth, I have a CHI and agree that I like it best on its own. I had to pull the gain way back to get it stacking really well, and I just prefered leaving the gain up on it. Im sure a honeybee would be good with it though, and I'd love to give it a spin with an SBEQ. I'm sure it'd be great into a beefier amp, but I think it sounds fine into my 5e3.

I saw a CH II demo by Bobby D and it did sound good at lower gain. I rarely run any of my Drives past noon, but it will be interesting to see how the CH II works out. WIth luck it will be here tomorrow!

I was going to kick off a few dirt pedals to make room for a delay, but I have decided to run the delay after the board, so I can keep lots of dirt on the board. It wasn't much trouble before, but Donner got me hooked on having a compressor > dirt > SBEQ where the FGC cb and the SBEQ are on all the time. I also need the Ruby Red for a buffer and it works well as a boost for the neck pickup of my T-Bone.

I rearranged things a bit on my board. I also found that the CH ll stacks really well with everything listed below except the EGDM, but it also works well with a MH and a LGW in front of the CH II. The only trouble is I am afraid to use the CH ll due to the current value.

So I've always heard that stacking the baby blue overdrive into the Dyna red distortion was the way to go. The baby blue overdrive is of lower gain in the Dyna red distortion.

However, the Dyna red distortion does sound absolutely killer when run into the honeybee overdrive.
