BJF + other pedal stacking

Postby rockeroo » Sun Feb 27, 2011 12:41 am

This may be sacrilegious, but I was wondering if anyone has any favorite BJF + (insert other manufacturer) pedal stacks. The reason I asked is because I tried to find a nice match for my PPF today, and I thought to audition my OCD in front it. To my delight, I was blown away. I had first tried a HBOD > PPF, but I was able to get a more rounded out sound with the OCD (with each of the p/u selections in my strat).

Curious to see where this discussion goes... and/or get any feedback / ideas regarding my choice of stacking.

In this case, I ran modden strat > OCD > PPF > 'tite clean' channel of my stiletto deuce 2 @ 50W. Speaker cab has 2 G12H speakers.

I really enjoy the tone of Andy Timmons and Jeff Beck, so I was inspired by them in this stacking project.

Thanks for reading!

I thought Klon>Honey Bee was one of the most heavenly things i had ever heard. It's been awhile since i've heard it, i sold the klon and was borrowing the HB, but it's a sound i'll never really get out of my head. Just this beautiful, juicy, singing lead tone.

I've tried various combos with my Pink Purple Fuzz- including Honey Bee, Model H, Tim, Rockbox Boiling Point, and many others.
My top two favorites for stacking with PPF are:
1] Dyna Red Distortion
2] MP Sweet Honey Overdrive
Those combos produce :pedallove

yeah in stacking usually the last pedal has the most to do with the final EQ sound, so running any distortion device into a BJF will improve the over all sound ..... the HBs well documented ability to make anything sound better go for many of the line... SBEQ is especially good at this ............probably the cheapest way to convert your board to a BJF sounding one is to put a SBEQ at the end and just leave it on

Great thread - oddly, I don't think I fully appreciated my BJFE until stacking them with other drives. I am in the land of milk and honey mixing them with Cornish pedals.

The Bjfe love the cornish buffers - thickens them in a really pleasing way. The Cornish tend to be a little more bite'y than the Bjfe and the Model G does such a fantastic job of smoothing them out. Plus... the crown jewel... the PGC helps with everything.

I got hammered for my use of adjectives on TGP by saying that the PGC makes things more "dynamic" - I guess the right word might have been more "alive." If I was writing on a Hawaii only post I would say "mo betta."

By the way, I forgot to mention that I liked the PPF last at the end of the chain of OD/Distortion/Fuzz
YMMV

So,... what about everybody's favorite non-BJF/MP compressor or EQ? Do they even exist?

Before the PGC, I had a Fromel Velvet Vice. I thought it did a nice job.
