BJFE core tonal pedals

As many of you know I have been tinkering in the world of Cornish which has lead me to sell some of my "non-essential" gear. I really wish I could keep a full collection of BJFE and PC, but for now I have had to find a good balance.

This leads me to this - here are my 3 essential:

PGC - one of the most subtle, but profound pedals in the BJFE line - you will KNOW when it's not there. I used to mount mine on the bottom of my board (to save space) at the end of the chain and leave it on always with the compression set at about 10 o'clock. I sold it, and now traded my ALF for another. I'll never let it go again.

SBMV - nothing like it and a really cool watery lush modulation with a great vibrato kind of thing at higher speeds. Great tone thickener too.

Model ? - hopefully, I don't get :censored for this, but I sold my HBOD after picking this up. They are different pedals for sure, but have similar drive levels with the MG having slightly more drive and harmonic content. It also has a tighter feel to it than the HBOD. If I were to speak in terms of SAG, I'd say the HB is a tube rectifier and the MG is a solid state rectifier. It also works great as a touch of gain cleanish boost and drive smoothener for other drives.

If you could only have three what would they be?

I'd have to go with the SBMV for sure. Nothing else like it. Next would be the WODOD :-) that is a combo of the SYOD v1 and v2 pedals and it is by far my favorite BJFE OD pedal (does this count as 1 or 2?). As for a third, I'm not sure. I have a HBOD and (hopefully soon it resurfaces?) a MHt that I like but I'm still searching for another that I regard on the level as the first two... Maybe if I ever get my hands on a BBOD I'll be set although you've piqued my interest in the PGC Donnel. Maybe I'll have to check one of those out as well (I do love my MP FGC).

Great thread idea btw!

Hmm do you guys really like using the PGC at the end of your chain? Doesn't it kill your dynamics a little? Always preferred it before most drives.

If I had to choose 3 - HBOD, MGMV and the CAF

At gunpoint it might be SBEQ, MH VT, HBOD (if I had a HB DLX I would sub that for the HBOD I think)

I cant believe how many love the PGC! I guess I am not a compressor guy. I also need to try a SBMV, but the entry fee is more than I can do right now.

for the essential core of the BJFe experience, i would say:

PGC in front

HBOD

CAF (evil laugh)

DRD

SBEQ

you could replace any of the dirt pedals.....with ones of your choice.....but the PGC in front and SBEQ in rear makes EVERYTHING in the middle sound magical :pedallove
