BBBOD

Postby depalm » Mon Dec 20, 2010 6:13 pm

Hi I bought what I believe it's one of the latest BBBOD units from Custom Sounds and I'm having a really good time with it.

My only "complaining" is that it came with no painting.
Is there a reason for that?
I mean is there a story besides this one or the last batches just came this way?

Thank you

some info from Bjorn early this year

"That is actually a bottle of tint used for blueberry bass
Overdrive and as you can see it clearly says Mahogany...........but if you
look at your 3BOD it looks more like mashed blueberries.....
It was originally bought for use of repair of acustic instruments
But as you can see that did not work since it isn't brown so it was
sitting since the 50's and brought out for 3BOD since the tint
couldnt be used for anythingelse..............
Now this old tint is gone and blueberries may instead be picked in
Finland.
I'll guess I'll make some more singelberry BOD's"

sorry I dont have the pic anymore but BJ probably does.

right ! the last of the 'Blueberry' tint is gone :(

But the BBBOD is now being made by MP so none more is needed ....

the 'Singleberry' reference is to a custom order that someone wanted a 3BOD in just polished metal without tint - I think there is a pic of it in the reference library or one of the pic galleries.....

...oh and the MP 3BOD is different than the BJFE one like what you have - not a direct replacement so I dont know if BJ will continue to build his as special orders ~~ etc...

Yeah, I'm aware of that.

Actually I was looking for the MP model first and maybe I'll buy it in the future but the BJFE has got me completely satisfied for now. (Despite the lack of paint and the unfinished edges of the ELFA metal box).

Yeah the sound I get out of it is just perfect - everything I record on bass goes thru it, and Ive never wanted for anything else - its one of the places I feel satisfied with - dirty bass I have covered 8)

I just got my 3BOD wired into my board, and all I can say is WOW! I am using a GVCG Telecaster into a 1965 blackface Princeton. The 3BOD retains a lot of low end, so when using a regular guitar, I turned the tone all the way up. It is KILLER for light overdrive sounds! I had read some of the posts from members who were using it for guitar. Seriously, if you stumble upon one of these at a reasonable price, it is an awesome pickup!

The BJF or MP version ?

This is exactly what I did years ago - and then asked BJ for a guitar version of the 3BOD ~ this became the Honey Bee 8)

I picked up the BJFE version last week on eBay. I ended up selling my HBOD Deluxe, and find I actually like the 3BOD for light overdrive. Donner, I remember you saying you were running the 3BOD like this which is why I ended up trying it out. You can definitely hear a bit of the HBOD in there, but I find the 3BOD is actually more usable with my rig in a live setting. Again, I am using my Baby Blue Overdrive and Little Green Wonder for some of the dirtier sounds, but for a light, dynamic overdrive the 3BOD is awesome!

I had to do some serious gear selling to pick up these two, but I am convinced they are prettiest set of pedals out there (not to mentioned ridiculous tone).
