BJFE VOLTAGE - WOW!

Postby hawaii121 » Wed Oct 20, 2010 10:22 pm

Finding a brief moment with the wife out of town to work on gear... I moved the Trex JR off and put a PP2+ on board. First off, the change in noise is astounding. I never realized how much white noise that little red box was producing! Second, I'm messing around with voltage. DRD at 7'ish - JANGLE and open sounding distortion with even more harmonic complexity  . PGC at 12v - good, good, good (want to bump this up to 18 for more headroom). LGW w/353 at 12v - sooooooo much more alive than at 9v, sounds like the blanket came off by comparison. So this is just my start... Oh, finally put Dans mini buffer in permanent home - very nice... Thinkin about HBOD at 12v.

So, time for the stupid question part of the post - are slots 1-4 at 12v when in the "non-normal" position?

Any other cool voltage experiments going out there?

man, I hear you on that. Switching my EGDM to 18 volts instead of 9 made all the difference in the world. It's definitely my favorite drive pedal I've owned.

Yes, this is good!
I've been wondering about the voltages for a while now. Especially with the PGC, as I'm so deeply in love with it. -A promise for a new honeymoon..
Also wondered if it'll make any difference with the Baby Pink Booster if it runs with 9V or 18V..

- I also have the PP+; the 1-4 outputs are 9V / Boss ACA 12V

Hi Hawaii

Yes, they're all 12v switched that way, and 9v in 'normal' mode. All the outputs are isolated so you can also get either 18v or 24v by using this cable, combining two outputs:

Sold anywhere where they have the PP2+ I would think. Got mine when I purchased the PP2+, maybe you have it and use it and know all this, I'm just throwing the info out anyways.. :pirate
Looking forward to getting a PP to try with my new BJF pedals :pedallove My old PP2+ got stolen last year along with a whole pedalboard :angry Missing it ever since, though it's not the type of gear effect-heads 'get' first, as there are so many kickass pedals that gets in the way! :drooling

I have tried the HB powered by a 12v adaptor, it got cleaner and louder- somewhat not as saggy and a bit glassier. I prefer it with the original (now dying) battery, yields a more furry dist. with dirtier overtones. Another super duper feature of the PP is the battery sag function, that's the thing I miss the most, along with the disappearance of the white noise monster! :clown shhhhhhhh!

Sag function is the first thing I'll try with the HB when I get a PP again. Using the battery sag with an old DOD "Hard Rock Distortion" (dist with analog delay) produced scary sounds of the robotic variety- Also, with a Maxon compressor I got some very good fuzzy overdrive sounds on low voltage. If you got some old pedals, try them out! :pirate

Thanks for the PP2 answers. After a bad battery experience in my Mac keyboard (have to buy a new keyboard from exploding battery!), I decided to remove all the batteries in my pedals. Anyhow, the LGW has the 272 chip plugged in, not the 353. So just a correction to the original post - the LGW with the 272 at 12v sounds great.

Has anybody tried the SBMV at higher volages? I'm curious...

Right-back-atcha, hawaii ! - I think the PP will be my next purchase, event though I'm hungerin' for other devices of color :joker - On the wait list for a EGDM; maybe I'll have the PP2 handy when that arrives..and while on the subject of waiting...

Yes! I do hope to be posting comments about the SBMV, BJFE has been good to me this year!

I'm still tweaking the V's and ended up putting my little trex Jr on the bottom along side the PP2 so I don't have to daisy chain anything (I think this was the problem with the Trex JR - had a bunch on a chain). It is working like a charm, everything is much more quiet without the daisy chain and the Echoczar is also noticeably more quiet running off the PP2 instead of the wallwart.

Like you said, this is one of those things that nobody wants to spend the $ on, but it sure makes these pedals sound even sweeter!

The SAG is really cool, I have the ALF running around 7 or 8v and it's a little more dirty. I'm thinking the SBMV off 12 or 18v should give some lush vibes with very clean modulations! CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Oh man, finally got around to flipping the switch on my pedal power to run my Honey Bee at 12 volts. The honey bee is definitely a keeper for me now(I just hadn't been able to make up my mind about it until now, and had been leaning towards selling). A little less sag which I find to be a good thing(I thought it had just a little too much at 9 volts). Still just as dymanic, and sounds awesome. It should be on the board for quite some time.
