Great to see some PPF love out there. I have had a couple of SWFs and a CAF over the years and am now on my second PPF. The PPF does it all for me and stacks really well with SYOD and HB. A great combo is PPF into Baby Pink with HB either on or off (both are great). Rock n Roll! I am not remotely tempted by any other fuzzes now which is great for GAS. Now I wish I could stop buying delay pedals!!

So what is the part in the PPF that led to its discontinued status?

I assume it is a transistor, but only one guy knows the details :bjorn

Yeah, I would assume a transistor as well...he must have been using a NOS something or rather in there and couldn't quite duplicate that particular part with a modern one...Marc Alhfs has had to discontinue pedals for that reason as well. It's just interesting..I guess I could understand that with vintage germanium tranny's..but silicon seems to be easier to tune and get the sound you're looking for. I guess I'm assuming the PPF is silicon which may not be correct?

Ge may be more temperamental and inconsistent within a given batch... but that doesnt mean Si based transistors and diodes are easy to tune to get what you need, out of anything on the shelf for a given design.

Some can have electrical specs that are different than others, with tighter tolerances, etc. Doesnt even need to be old- manufacturers may discontinue any time and whatever it out there is all you can get... Kinda "NYS".. "New Young Stock" :)

Still waitin´ it with green dress on.

It´ll be unique piece of BJ for you. I´m sure it wil be in good hands!

Yeah man, I think you'll find your swf is equivalent, gain-wise, to a ppf, but it definitely has a different character. And a more traditional tone control..and, can't wait for the little tweakable wonder!

From low to high gain, I think the fuzzes go: FF, PPF/SWF, AWF, CAF.
That's just my ears though, and I haven't tried the arctic, but from what I hear, it's heavier than the snow white.
Anyone else compared them all? Or, do we need to do a comprehensive BJFE fuzz shootout?
Incidentally, my fav is the CAF, because its ridiculousness is matched, only, by its awesomeness. :pedallove

The PPF has more gain/ fuzz than my AWF as long as the nature knob is before noon. These two pedals cover all my fuzz needs and I have no more GAS unless you consider the BBOD a fuzz, then the hunt is still on.

The PPF is probably the best all purpose pedal I have heard with the ability to cover fuzz, overdrive and distortion via the nature knob. A very versatile pedal indeed.

Mickpick, not to be a jerk..but you really should be gassing for a CAF as well
