Should I sell my DRD to get a HBOD?

I borrowed a friends Honey Bee clone pedal and loved it! I'm sure the real HBOD is 100Xs better...so
I'm thinking about selling my DRD and getting a HB. I play into a distorted amp and find myself stepping on my EGDM
more when I play live than the DRD. Any thoughts? I tried the MP SHOD but it sounded too hard/stiff to me, the HB seems much softer.

Tough one John! Hard to say without knowing your style or what sound you are looking to fill with it.

My opinion- hbod. It is SO unique in feel.. Unlike anything else by a mile in that area. If I had to choose between the two, it would win. But that's a "shoot your brother or shoot your sister" decision :)

Agreed - after having both I found I couldn't replace the feel and tone of the HBOD. It's the most popular BJFe for a reason. Nothing comes close...

But it really does come down to what you need. Are you looking for lower gain and more grind and sag or are you looking for higher gain and more rock n' roll?

LOL isn't that the way of gearslut :) But hey it really is a more unique pedal. There's only one other pedal that can get close to the HB but even then it doesn't have that unique sag and loose bottom end that the HBOD has. So its a matter of choice. For me I'm using it less these days because other BJF pedals are more in tune with my sound so to speak. But if you're looking for the sound of an good ole overdriven supro you can't really do better than this. Its such a dynamic pedal its incredible. Probably one of the most dynamic pedals of the line. And the sound is just spot on. Btw, the BJF lineup should be producing the HBODs in the USA soon so maybe you can afford both :) Just wait a little !

I´ll have to with "keeping them both".
DRD and HB are two so unique pieces, so I´m quite sure that you´d be missing DRD.. HB is extremely wonderful pedal - you should get it!

Tough call, but I also play a Stratocaster through a distorted tweed now and then and also find the EGDM to be the best Distortion verses the DRD or MH. You didn't mention the amp you are using and if it is master volume distortion or power tube distortion and guitar type, so more info would help.

The HBOD works far better into a distorting amp than the SHOD, but into a spongy tweed it adds more sponge which isn't so good. That is where I prefer the Sea Blue EQ. I suppose you could run the HBOD at higher Voltage to reduce some squish. If you have master volume distortion into an amp with big tubes and big iron a HBOD would truly be sweet :love4

So, if you usually go with a distorting amp sell the DRD and work on both the HBOD and SBEQ. EGDM > HBOD > SBEQ = killer sound and flexibility. Don't forget to experiment with voltages as it can really affect the tone into a hot amp. BUT, please check the max Voltage for the pedals as they are not all the same!!

I play a 59' tweed G-16t into a Silver Bulldog 12".
I tried the SHOD but it was too hard sounding for me. My amp is pretty tight on the low end.
I will get the HBOD sooner or later. I have a new Skreddy Supa on the way but I think I'll keep the DRD for now.

jdandry, I am not feeling well  and looked back at my earlier post and corrected some acronyms that I :censored up. It should read correctly now.

What is a G-16t tweed? Can you reference it to any Fender? i.e. Deluxe, Bassman, Super, Twin? Tubes and speakers?

I use my wife's 5f1 Champ ( 1x8 Weber alnico sig), my 5e3 Deluxe w/Blue, and a borrowed, but soon to be mine Bludotone 4x12 Bassman. Everything in my signature sounds great through the Bassman and a clean 5e3. But, when I crank the Deluxe and Champ into OD the EGDM > SBEQ rules! You can run one as an EQ and the other as a boost or vice versa. If it is convenient run the EGDM & SBEQ at 12 or 18 Volts which firms up the attack and moves the center frequency higher removing the mud. I suppose adding Volts to a HBOD could do the same thing, but I haven't tried it thought I should!
