Is my EGDM's foot switch failing?

Postby cajone5 » Mon Aug 16, 2010 6:48 am

I recently got an EGDM in trade and it has been acting a little funny at times. Basically there are times when the effect is engaged that there's some drastic volume drop and the signal kind of fades/flickers in and out (randomly, not cyclic). Then other times I'll hit the switch and it'll work fine. So I clicked the switch a dozen or so times and it seemed to be fine again... For now... :confused2

Any idea what the issue is? If it's the foot switch, how do I go about having it fixed? Note, I don't have the tools or the know-how to do it myself. If someone here wants to try one out and has the knowledge to fix it I'd be glad to send it to them to demo and send some money to cover the repair and return shipping. :mailbox

Thanks in advance for all your help! :notworthy

Ive had the footswitch "grease" issue on my SBEQ twice and DRD once. There is grease on the internal moving parts of the switch that can drip down to the contact point and prevent a good electrical connection... It gave me the exact issue you describe with sound randomly flickering in and out, especially if i rested my foot on the stomp and wiggled it from side to side.

Id be happy to clean it out for you, or even walk you thru the process via PM or phone. Once you do it once you'll see its a really simple process... Bjorn wrote something here : viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2263

Thanks for the help Bill! I'll give that a shot over the next couple days.

yep...that sounds like the switch issue. it's EASY to fix, just takes a few minutes to take it apart, clean the contacts, and put it back together. it's good stuff to know, as this kinda thing happens to a LOT of pedals, not just BJF and MP pedals.

Full dittoes ....

that stomp is used by over 90% of builders so this is going to be a useful thing to learn if your going to use truebypass pedals much

In fact would make a great instructional video if someone wanted to - would certainly get a permanent sticky in the library ....
