Marty, take your time on the demos - no worries as this is for reseach and I want you to feel as though you have enough time to try the variations - it only benefits us!!

Bobby D, if you supply Marty with your address then the V2 can go to you for a demo if you like.

Cheers,
David :pedallove

melodichaotic wrote:Hey Mike--I hear you and agree on the two--I did a few audio demos, but I'm not happy about the quality, and I'll re-do them and post next week.

Having won V2 last year and still digging it, it's great to have the new twins to compare, and am VERY glad and pleasantly surprised how much I love the vibe and attitude of V1, even with it's limited tonal range--it's that good where once you dial in the zone it sounds KILLER

The interesting thing I also found, is that my "older" V2, which has the super cool darker yellow "LP Gold-Top look", is voiced kind of like the color--a bit fuller sounding, though with the same EQ profile, and not darker, but a bit mellowed in the high end.

Same gain range as the current V2, but this one I'm "borrowing"(will get this to you right after I re-do the demo "High Noon" ), sounds closer to V1 in that there is more treble content throughout the range of the treble pot, whereas my V2 I think has a wider scope of tonal voicings.

I found at lower gain settings(as you will here in the demo I do), the "matched pair" can sound quite similar at times, but once you get past noon on the gain, V1's fangs start coming out and makes itself known--conversely, my V2 has more of a distinct sound from V1...

THIS is the combo 1.5 voicing I'd like to hear/see--the extended tonal range of the older V2, with a little bit of "lift" in the EQ from V1 and the same gain as V1--THAT would be a nice combo where you could go from true overdrive to distortion, but still with that gritty-ness to the texture.

..course, if there was a two stomp version with a boost to the front end of the circuit and a gain pot for the range on top, you could get both on the fly :whistle ...could call it the "Super Sparkling Yellow Overdrive" :pedallove ...that'd be nice  :music

Marty that's funny I was just thinking about how much I would like to have a SYOD Deluxe v1.5 and the boost berfore the drives would make it an utilimate versitile pedal that could cover pretty much all my drive needs.

I have to say though after receiving my AWF I haven't been playing the twins as much as I use to. I definetly love both pedals and they serve different purposes. If the SYOD v1.5 ever came into exsistance... well that would be :drooling :love4 :pedallove

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

hey mike - how about an AWF > v1 / v2 comparison/overview ....

and try v1 with the drive backed off to 9 oclock and a little level boost into V2 for the deluxe sound

Donner I really like the AWF > v2. It mellows out the fuzz a little bit and brings about a sweetness.

AWF > v1 is nice and raspy with great sustain.

AWF > MP LGW just sounds huge and sustains for days.

Thanks for the tip Donner

The v1 > v2 is an awesome stack. :notworthy

The high frequencies of the v1 mess together with the low frequencies of the v2 to get pretty close to my DR.

Right from the start I thought that the v2 sounded a lot like the overdrive from a Deluxe Reverb. Just sweet overdrive goodness. :pedallove :bjorn

V1>V2 is great...very much like a CH II to my ears...will give the AWF >both a try...my favorite ridiculous fuzz tone is the CAF(with the gate set heavy)>AWF...it's a monsterously magic tone! :pedallove

I guess if you added the fuzz strength up, it would be like.... 12.5!

Excellent stacking experimentations !!!!! Keep em coming
also try running the overdrives into the fuzzes (and that into an SBEQ for finishing if you have one) 8)

Audio Demo for SYOD V1/V2 comparison + AWF>V1 stack

Same set up as last demo: Stock '58 RI Les Paul w/ 11's into channel one(12ax7)of Matchless SC-30 head and matching 2x12 open back Matchless cab(w/25 and 30 watt Celestions), Bass and Treble at Noon.

PT I: For Twin comparison, both V1 and V2 treble set at 10 'o clock, and volume at noon(adjusted down to about 10 'o clock as drive settings increase)--first you will hear direct signal for clean setting, then A/B'd with V2 first, then V1...first w/drive at 9 'o clock, then at noon, then full up..no boosters used.

Pt II: AWF>V1..settings as follows...AWF Vol--9 'o clock Treble--maxed Fuzz--maxed....V1 Vol--10 'o clock Treble 10 'o clock Fuzz noon.

This was all done quickly and cold, in one take, as I usually like to warm up a bit before recording, but you get the idea.

Had recorded about 6 passes on different days over the last few weeks trying to ascertain the recording/software issues, as wanted to get this up sooner.

Quick notes: This recent V2 is closer in voicing to V1 than my older(last year)V2 with more aggressive bite to the overall EQ--as you can hear, they can sound quite similar at lower gain settings, but V1 really starts baring it's fangs wit the drive at noon, and is blistering full up.

I've made more detailed notes in previous posts. I will add this: Now spending the time with this matched pair, I find among other things, that V1 has this almost direct into the board using a nice pre-amp acoustical property, with higher drive settings and when the treble pot is set in the "sweet zone"(about 8:30-12:30)--very nice!

On the stack--it was a quick one, but a good one--it's like V1 put on a nice thick turtle-neck sweater  A very pleasing stack that can be dialed in even better. :pedallove
