MP LGW >> BJFE BBOD = OMG!!!!

Postby tonewave » Wed May 26, 2010 2:48 am

Hey there
been lurking here a while and finally joined up
anyways thought I'd share this :-)

Just had a major revelation with the LGW and BBOD
Donner suggested this combo as a D style sound/feel and well, he ain't wrong

I like the BBOD a lot, but it is particular what you use it with guitar/amp wise, even so its a keeper, cos when its happening its great.
However the LGW I found to be a bit too Hi Fi for a TS, and preferred my old pull comp cut FD2 for TS style duties.

So I thought I'd sell the LGW.
As you do, just before seeing it go, I thought I'd give Donner's stack recommendation a go
and it just blew me away.

Nice saturated sustain that just sounds full and big without needing to be actually louder than the clean sound.
and there's quite a good dynamic range when rolling back the guitar vol or just playing lighter.

I had heaps of fun dialing in the sound by playing around with the body dials of each pedal, and I think that that may be the secret to the D sound. ie one gain stage has a certain eq accent (say low mids) while the next in line has another different eq accent (hi mids) which gives you a fuller tone (I'm just making this bit up here, could be completely wrong)
Some settings would, with just real small changes, suddenly create smooth and even endless sustain, all the while not sounding "distortiony" if you know what I mean :-)

anyways, I've stacked ODs before (tim>>hbod, FF>>hbod) but with this stack the sum far outshines the parts.
If you got these 2, or even the BBOD and any TS, give it a go, its a great sound and heaps of fun

Hey Tonewave,
Welcome to the Forum...yeah, the BBOD is excellent isn't it? I'm not much of a stacker as I tend to prefer the pure sound of each pedal(not saying I don't do it) though part of Bjorn's ideology is for these gems to be modular.
Will have to give that stack a go--yeah, as far as the EQ profile of each pedal, it's like getting them to "talk" to each other, knob twiddling and all.
Sounds cool!

thanks for the welcome
methinks this forum may be less hysterical than others out there, can only be a good thing

I forgot to mention I was getting all this sustain and tone out of my Silverface Vibrochamp set at about 4 or 5, haha
can't wait to hear it with some of my gigging amps

Great tip!
Tried it out today, very rich harmonic mids with a very tight and clear top end.

hmmm. thats interesting, generally everyone seemed to agree that BBOD doesnt really like anythink stacked into it (i think even Bjorn himself said so somewhere) and the famous "expensive" "D stack", recommended by donner, is the other way around, i.e. BBOD>>LGW, which i did for years, with excellent results!!!
so i'm kind of excited to hear it works the other way around as well....because of all the talk i never tried them in that order. but you always got to rely on your ears, and great if it works!!!

Interesting. I dont have have a BBOD, but was told the DRD on lower Drive settings can be BBODish. Maybe I should check out the LGW into a low gain setting on the DRD! I havent used the LGW as much lately as I still prefer the SBEQ for boosting, or even the D*A*M Red Rooster (though it is gathering dust).

this i did, and it's recommended by a lot of people. cool combo!!! but i was under the impression it would not work that easily with BBOD....
unfortunately, i don't own mine anymore. i would be curious bout the difference btw the two BBOD>>LGW versus LGW>>BBOD. i still think i would prefer BBOD>>LGW. just a feeling...

yeah Tonewave... do you mean guitar into BBOD into LGW into Amp ?

you can use the LGW as a beefy poweramp distortion section and dial the BB DRD EGDM in front of it for three tasty 'preamps' (Dumble,Marshall,Vox) an SBEQ at the and can be helpful too and a PGC or HB in front of all that will expand the possibilities alot too....... and thats just t he 'standard' line 8)
