Ok, finally with great assistance from Mr Picard, thank you very much, I'm able to let this demo spin.

What you're hearing is bridge p/u of a Peavy Wolfgang hardtail gold top(basswood body/maple-birdseye maple neck) into channel 1(12ax7) of a '94 Matchless C-30 head into a Matchless 2x12 cab with stock Celestions(25 and 30 watt).

Treble and bass controls are fairly flat(12:00) with a slight nudge on the treble.
What you'll hear is first some clean signal, then the SYOD V2 with drive and treble full up, then being fully blasted(meaning all the way up) with the BPB side of a Deluxe HB.

2nd, is the Deluxe HB, trim-pot maxed, drive maxed and nature at about 10:00(no BPB).

Lastly, you'll hear the EGDM stock with drive full up and voice at about 10:00, then have it also fully blasted by the BPB.... demo all done in one shot replete with foot switch clicks, recorded with my I-pod mic plug-in, without compression, in my studio with overall volume at a fairly loud(about 20 watts).

More to follow!

Love the clarity and articulation of the SYOD Marty,
it's great on chords and especially on the single note stuff.

Man the EGDM is a beast at that setting.
Some tonal nuances of a range of playing styles too
including VH, Brian May and even some Steve Vai like vocining in places
(yep- even with the EGDM)...not just a Vox in a box.
A good demo with some tasty playing
that was great to hear rather than just read about.

That's the joy of people like yourself, Bobbty D, huckleboogie, mcass63,
and others who have all made clips that have been informative as well as inspiring
regarding the BJF magic.

Many thanks to you et al including Mr. Picard.
Look forward to more when time allows.

Simon in Melbourne.

Looking forward to part 2!!!

Great chops there Marty, nice job. And as Simon said it is inspiring to hear others using the BJF magic.. Ive been meaning to get around to taking video of my favorite settings/stacks interactively- but- family commitments leave very little time- most spare time is in band rehearsal or practicing alone at volume when the wife hits the grocery store!

Would love to hear more SYOD-

Bill

Must have been tired last night when I listened to this on my nice Sony enclosed headphones - I didn't like any of the drive clips at all. But today on the M-Audio BX5 they seem fine. Great clean tone and playing, BTW! I think I mostly just don't like the room sound on the recording during the drive parts. If you could ever get your hands on a Pod or something to demo these 3 pedals that would be awesome! I could send you a Pod Xt/X3 preset that's great for comparing pedals - that way no one can claim the magic is really "in the amp".

Hey, thanks guys for all the positive comments...I appreciate it. That was just some spontaneous playing with a few favorite settings, not properly warmed up, but the vibe was right.

I didn't want to preface it too much, but it was more of me being inspired in turn by what Bjorn is being inspired by..great sound and great tone--less of a what this pedal can do demo, but I did want to show how diverse and distinct the overdrive/distortion characteristics of each pedal are back to back, which never ceases to impress me.

I teach, so I don't have a problem talking and playing, but I wanted to just play live, straight through and get in a zone, and that way you just focus on the sound.

Yeah, as for the sound, I will keep working to get it better--the room is small so at those volumes it fills up quick, and on the amp thing, I look at it this way, all things being relative:

A great amp will make OK sounding pedals, sounds good...good ones great, and great ones fantastic.

I will do more of each pedal with different guitars, and different amps(with quick A/B switching) to dig in some more...yeah, the SYOD is sweet and articulate, and just sounds monstrous being slammed with the BPB...the Deluxe HB sounds "carmelized" by comparison with the sag and "tweed-ish voicing", and the EGDM is absolutely vicious being pummeled!

Lots 'o fun...BTW, those were all run at 9volts FWIW

True, but then the small room and mic can eat those up. That's why the Pod is great for recordings when you have less than an ideal room to deal with. If you use something like a Hot Plate with a line out you can even run that into the Pod and turn off the amp model while keeping the speaker model and record direct to the PC through the Pod's USB. It's always a long, treacherous road from fingers to disk.

Fwiw, I've had bad luck going into the pod with pedals. Sucks tone and high end even with all effects off and bypassing the amp sim. And, pedals in general just don't interact with it as they do an amp-- they sound fizzier and brittle to my ears.

The sound of the the mic'd amp should be compared to the Pod sound to compare apples to apples. I've had great luck with the Pod for recording but don't like it used as an effect into a guitar amp. Of course you can't slam the front of a Pod with a +18dB booster, so if you need that the Pod is not a good choice - nor is it if you're trying to create feedback howls or otherwise need that physical vibration coupling from the amp sound back to the guitar strings. Pods do suck for that. I find that if a pedal is any good for a normal amp it will sound good in the Pod if you know how to set the Pod up. And the direct recording from the Pod will sound better than a great amp and pedal mic'd in a poor room.

Yes, I think both points are valid, and there's more than one way to great tone. I did that demo quick, just positioned the plug-in(a physical plug-in) to my I-Pod, and just went for it. I have gotten great recorded results close mic'ing my Orange Overdrive 120 in that same room, so I just have to work it a bit.

I do agree with Bill though, as I'm more into immediacy and interaction, and don't want anything artificial getting in the way of plug in and play tone...had a Hot Plate, and it's useful, but just wasn't THAT keen on it.
