This depends on what effect you are talking about, and what sound you are after. The bjfe and MP pedals are different and each have thier strengths!

Which ones are you comparing or considering?

BJFe pedals are designed and handmade +finished by Bjorn, where the Mad Professor pedals/circuits are DESIGNED by Bjorn, but they are constructed by the people in the Mad Professor camp. If you are looking to buy a BJFe pedal new, they are sold through http://www.thesegoto11.se and http://www.custom-sounds.com . Additionally, they can be found used on this board, ebay, and TGP etc. Goodluck and welcome to the board!

Sometimes Mad Professor pedals start out as BJFe pedals. Once the circuit goes through some changes and people give in feedback, it ends up being transferred into the MP line. That was the case for the MP LGW and the upcoming MP Ruby Red Booster.

I agree with all of the above. THey are addictive!! A few of us around here didnt have any BJFe 6 months ago and now look at out pedal chains :D But, there is a reason. Noting sounds and plays like a BJFE and I was reminded of that early this week when I picked up an OD by another brand. It is going back as it just sounds awful after using my BJFe's for 6 months.

That's pretty much true for me. a few months ago all I had was the MP LGW, the SHOD and the Honey Bee OD. Now look at me !

The Sweet Honey OD from MP and the Honey Bee OD from BJFe are two very different pedals! Do not get them confused. The SHOD compares more favorably to the SYODv2 I would think but haven't tried them side by side. The Honey Bee is more like an old supro amp that you can push into a nice distortion.

+1! I like them both for different reasons - and yep they feel completely different.. but if i had to choose only one it would be the HB all day. It has such a great sag and amp-like feel, sweet breakup- just feels great to play. The SHOD is a lot tighter, "edgier", and has a little more gain.

To me, the HB acts almost like my "power amp stage", it is last in my drive chain and is ALWAYS on. Depending on the need i kick on other OD's in front of it.

As has already been stated, these are two very different ODs. I find the either/or comparison almost pointless. Not only are they tonally different in a big way, the responsiveness and 3rd knob function is significantly different. Different, not better or worse.

I own both, use one or the other depending on the particular music I'm playing and the other gear I've chosen for a particular gig. I find myself going to the SHOD more often then the HB, but only because I find it a bit more versatile for the stuff I happen to be currently playing.

Here is a comparative demo posted a while back http://www.bjfe.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1874. And here is an audio comparison (with some tasty licks) on Huckleboogie's soundclick page (MP Prototype is the SHOD) http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=920019&content=music

Like all of Bjorn's creations, these two fully reveal themselves only after you've put in some time with them. The interaction of the controls and response to playing dynamics is complex. These truly are tools for musicians.

Buy them both
