Great isn't it!

He really shows how to compliment someone else's tone
(in one case Frampton's) and that tone is NOT pedal dependent.
He get's killer tones with a 15 watt amp.
Reminds me of how Ron Wood used his Fender Champ in some of those Faces clips.

Cheers Donner.

I wonder if any of them are trying their Model H's at 12 volts? I guess I find it strange as it may just be my favorite BJFe pedal!

SJK, how do you find it changes sonically with 12V? I had one and found it overly dark. Great for bedroom playing but i couldnt get it to sound good in a band mix.

I have one of the early donnerbox ones. Much brighter and sharper gain than the ones being passed around. I compared both one next another a while back before I sold the second. I remember the newer one being darker in sound, more tamed/compressed. The donnerbox one is similar tonally but much better to my taste.

yeah the later ones breakup a little earlier and easier and have there place too, they actually work better in just about any situation - but the first ones had a little more clang and kick -- I like/keep them both for what they are

To me the plain strings get thicker and the wound strings have more headroom and the frequency of distortion seems to go higher. Not unlike the Voice knob on a EGDM. I could see at lower volumes with dark humbuckers the Model H could seem muddy. I tend to run my OD pedals pretty close to unity, but the Model H begs to be turned up or at the very least played with a loud amp.

You can see my amps under my name and the are all 14 - 20 Watts with bright speakers and no Master Volume. I play a Vintage style Strat and find it sound better and better as I turn up and even sound great into a jumpin' amp.

I have had 4 different ones in my hands (half borrowed) and kept the one that had more distortion when the gain knob was fully CCW. The last other one I had was a super tough decision as it had this huge, but clean sound. That is probably the only pedal I have ever sold that I would like back, but it is hard for me to justify having two Model Hs. The reason I want it back is I never go above 2 o'clock on the gain, but for playing into a distorted amp I wish I had the option of a cleaner setting than mine has. So, if anyone has S# 50 of the gray Model H... Maybe we could work a trade of some sort.

With so many for sale it wont be long before before the used prices start to fall. Maybe I should get back in line for a new one and hope to get lucky like #50. Ok, I'm sick ;)
