SYOD Users Chime In!!!!!!

Postby SteveA » Sat Mar 13, 2010 10:04 pm

Just got my SYOD :) Its really gorgeous. I mean there's no question about Donner's work being immaculate. What I found, like my friend sonic, is that I get most use out of it with the treble set from 9 to 12 and slightly over 12 sometimes. What I just found out is how well that pedal stacks with others !!! Its amazing how it can just always find its place anywhere !!!! The HBOD, Model H, fuzzes, you name it they like it !!! Anyone here have some nice stacking or just plain simple comments on their use of "The Sparkly OD" ??

Try the SHOD>SYOD...it crunches the SYOD very nicely, but I like the reverse even better as it retains more of the SYOD's character.

Do you guys have version one or two? I got on the list for a new one, but who knows if Bjorn will make anymore. The Model G may actually prove both more interesting and more useful though. Still, I wouldn't turn down a V2 SYOD!

Rumor is it is a Gibson GA-20 in a box, but I cant find the thread. I'll trade my PGC for one! ;)

I honestly would trade more than my PGC for one. To be honest though, I've never heard a 40s or 50s amp live so it's really an intriguing prospect. Of course BJ is known for his amp like pedals so it'll be a great new flavor that I'll hopefully have the pleasure of drooling over. They'll probably be sparse so place your bets cause everyone here is waiting.

its still my favorite baseline OD and I still go back and forth between preferring V1 and V2 they could be two different models ( and could be in some other product lines  ).... I really love how V1 has the touch a clear bite - its like theres some clean getting thru but its fully integrated , theres no separation feel there - like an elegant rawness.......... V2 is a more finished tone - can quickly forget its a pedal it blends in with the amp so completely..... 8)

Are they really that different (V1 and V2)?

Donner, if you can expand a little on how you feel between the V1 and V2?

Thanks :)

V1 has the clearer treble - and on the right amp its just perfect - but on the wrong speaker combination it can be piercing not unlike the EGDM - this is where the V2 comes in.

I do have the V1 and from what you are telling me it makes sense based on my experience with it. The treble can get a little piercing at post 12' settings on my /13 that's got a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker in it. However, the SBEQ makes a world of difference in taming that and bringing the sound to a really full nice modern distortion nirvana. I mean they really really really work well together. One thing though is that the SYOD does seem to cut out a large part of my mids when left to its own even at lower treble settings. I would think the V2 would be better at that. Even if I got a V2 in the future, I don't think i'd let go of the V1. Its got its niche covered very well + the donner finish is just unbelievable (yeah i'm that vain).
