Mighty Red Distortion

Hi all,

My first post. Im new to BJFE pedals, I have a honeybee (on the way) and a sweet honey OD. Im extremely so far and am now of course looking to convert some other non-BJF pedals to his brand

Im looking at the dyna red vs the MP mighty red. What are the differences here? As with the HBOD/SHOD, im sure there ARE some, i just dont see the info in any forum search or over on TGP.

Can anyone shed some light? I have no problem with the price, but if they are fairly similiar in sound ill obviously choose the MP.

I play vintage style Strats and love my DRD. I read that the MRD was better for single coils, but a DRD popped up used for a reasonable price so I went with it. I think the MRD is more compressed and is more like an '80's sound (not my cup of tea) where the DRD is more Plexi.

I found the DRD to be extremely versatile at 12 volts in that it is a bit fatter on the plain strings and a bit more string definition on the wound strings than at 9 volts. You can get a great dynamic feel/sound with the drive below noon, and above that you get gobbs of gain. I also fine a Model H > DRD is a fantastic high gain sound where the DRD > HBOD is a spongy/bouncy sound that works great with your volume knob.

The Mad Professor pedals are great, but Bjorn's alchemy pedals (BJF) are off the charts fantastic!

I have them both. I've had the MRD for a year or so, and the DRD for about a month or two. I can only agree that MP pedals are great, but BJFs are fantastic

Since I got the DRD, I have not used the MRD much. I play mainly tele with single coils, but have played them both with Les Paul w/hums as well. And I think both of them works very well with both kinds. However, the MRD is definitely much more 80s style. It has more presence, highs and compression. It's great for those 80s power metal/funk metal tones, but not very versatile. I don't like it on lower settings, it becomes very bassy, and loses the definition.

The DRD is more 70s, I guess. Warmer, creamier. And a more allround rock sound. And a very very good sound that is Plus it sounds great on all gain levels from non to full. It's a great moderate overdrive as well.

So, I vote for the DRD. Obviously

hey bsic! good to see you here! there are plenty of good folks here that will fuel the BJFE GAS you seem to have which I think it is a good thing cause you'll end up w/ fantastic pedals!

I think of DRD as a Marshall JMP 2203 or 2204 in a pedal which is a GREAT thing!

Yes, damn GAS. I like really nice, really expensive stuff so I *suppose* this is a good thing You are my first BJFE enabler by selling me that HBOD!! I am completely in love with the SHOD, I cant see parting with this one anytime soon at least.

Now of course Im eyeing the Model H vs the Dyna Red... one more- then I HAVE to stop at least for a little while

I am going through a similar phase. I got a honeybee about a month ago and have been so happy with it that pulled the trigger on a egdm a week or so ago. It arrived a few days ago and like it so much, that am currently planing on a BJFE to replace my crunchbox.

Right now i am also in between the dyna red and the mighty red.

Basic, did you end up getting the dyna red or the mighty red?

I went with the DRD, *fantastic* pedal!!

What I liked was its ability to go from overdrive to disortion with just a little vol knob rollback when the pedal is dialed in. Not at all buzzy or fizzy- never tried the MP MRD, didnt need to

I did try the MRD and it was a very nice pedal, but not very dynamic and I couldnt get it to do what I wanted. Still have the Dyna Red!

yeah if the HB and EGDM bonded with your rig the DRD is a no brainer
