So i need a eq to clean up a overdriven amp. Does the SBEQ offer cut in freq and volume? I'm looking for
a sorta pre set volume control with eq to hit the amp softer. Would the Sea Blue work? thanks- John

Yes it does as it has a volume control that you can set lower than bypass but the question would be if if it can 'clean up' precisely what you want?

An eq trick that comes to mind when you mention cleaning up is lowering low mids for guitar say about 400Hz something like -6 to -10dB : this can make a country sound out of a Soldano

Right I just took that example becuase someone asked about exactly how to do that someyears ago and that was my answer then.

This however SBEQ cannot do while it can be set to do something of the sort by first creating a midnotch by boosting bass and treble mildly and then lowering volumecontrol and then back off on Bass.

Still exactly what amplifier is it you'd like to clean up?

I think your best bet would be a parametric EQ with a volumecontrol- that's what I'd pick; or a low noise graphic eq and one tuned for guitar if you are looking for a guitarpedal

I'm using a 59' tweed Gibson/Maestro GA-16T, it's a 2X 6v6, 14watt cathode bias deal into a 60's Vox Silver Alnico.
I use it cranked for my OD sound and use a DRD and soon (any day now) a RRB to boost for leads.
I tried a Fromel Shape but it didn't do the trick. I have been using a cheap , but not to shabby, Dano EQ in a loop (as I'm
scared to step on it! ) It worked but I'm just looking for something better.
The Mad Scientist guy said his Cleanness EQ was made for cleaning up the gain channel on his amp, so maybe i'll try that
but I like the idea of a great graphic but not sure about the Boss or MXR. Thanks again for any info!

Well if the Dano EQ worked you more or less have the settings from that and you can go and get a mechanically superior unit such as BOSS,EH,MXR....that has the same bands and you'd likely have moreorless the same circuit while besides mechanical structure noise and current draw et.c.et.c varies all that may be of minor concern depending on how you look at it.

One of my favourites and good luck finding one as it's discontinued is the Maxon 6 band EQ. It's easily modified for truebypass if needed as it's mechanically switched anyway and just for this .....

I have on my shelf a couple of BOSS EQ's one guitar and one bass that both are just fine.

You can treat BOSS pedals really rough before they break and the analog ones are repearable over forseeable future

j - you mentioned the EQ is ' in a loop'.

Is it in a loop on your pedalboard or is it a loop in the amp ?

If its in the amp POST preamp then your removing the offending frequencies AFTER they have already done their distortion duties ..... you will get the best clean up effect if you remove these mids and lows PRE distortion - whether thats in a distortion pedal or the preamp tubes in your amp ....

Either way for your own education, take your eq and switch it in and out before a distortion pedal and then move it post distortion and you will hear the difference.

No, just a true bypass loop on my board, it's first in line after the guitar before anything else.
