Have you altered the trim pot on your EGDM for the better?

I run the EGDM at 18v. (Thanks Newarkwilder).
I've never altered the internal trim pot as I've always thought why try and fix something that isn't broken?
I use a Strat and a Tele into a Vibro King.

I read a thread on TGP where someone said said they did mess with the trim pot looking for something different/ better,
only to eventually return it to the stock setting convinced it was the optimum setting to begin with.
(see note below  )

Regarding Mr. Juhl's description pages that come with his pedals-
I use suggested starting points for external knobs as a guide and happily tweak them.
People say trust your ears- but regarding inside the pedal,-
I've always trusted his ears especially if he tests pedals using Fender amps (among others).

So can you tell me how the trim pot is meant to alter the tone/ voicing
to be better suited to a particular amp/ set up etc. Especially if you use the EGDM with a Blackface style amp.

 (Many who visit here are also regular Gear Page users/buyers/ sellers etc-in fact I discovered the BJF Forum through TGP! :D ).

Cheers.

I got my EGDM used, so I cant be sure it had not been moved already. I was borrowing someones EGDM previously and they did sound different. I play vintage style Stratocasters into the amps listed to the left and felt I would like a little less treble bite, so I turned down maybe 1/10th of a turn CCW and that made the top end just right. I did mark the original placement "just in case". I run my EGDM at 12 volts and really like 18 as well, but 12 sags just right.

I really like the treble trim pot feature and wish a few others had it as well so you could get the treble just right and then use the voice/nature knobs to sculpt the mids and bass.

I would think the EGDM going into a blackface amp with its scooped mids and low distortion would sound better with a little top taken off so you could fill in the mids a bit with the voice. The nice thing is if you mark where you started you can always go back if you dont like it.

Cheers Scott,

and it sounds like it's easy to do. I like the idea of marking the starting point before you start- what did you mark it with?

The EGDM internal trimmer was added so that it would work better with Blackface/Jenseny amp speakers - it changes the top end so that it will act voxish on a fender - thats the short answer :D

Thanks Donner- in short- more voxish if it's turned cw or ccw- or does it depend on the amp-

the obvious is to try it I know- but I think I'll do Scott's trick of marking it so it can be returned easily.

I just put a short line of black Sharpie so I could find the original line the trimmer was parallel to. You will be marking black neoprene, so a good ball point pen would work as well.

right the trim is to adjust it to the amp its working with and especially the speakers. If youve ever played a Blackface fender right after playing a Vox you know w hat I mean... you have to get the top end just right, espicially with drives.

Tweaked back ccw about 1 hr on the clock.
Smoother high end with the Vibro King. I think I'll play some more with this too!
Thanks Donner. easier than I imagined once I marked the astarting point as per Scott's reccomendation.
It tames the treble which can seem a bit too much on the VK.
Cheers to both :D

Glad it is working! I think that is about how much I moved my trim pot.

I was messing around with the voltages again since I have a new clean boost/buffer (Fromel UP!) and find that 18 volts is the ticket!

Yep.......

tweaking that trim pot really can get you to "Twist and Shout!"
literally- who says "Can't Buy Me Love"?
It's a Beatles Machine that Vox in a Box.
