Hi,

Thank you for the kind words gentlemen.

Ah, yes R is resonance and I am most glad you all enjoy.

R also stands for research and this model is very much a research project about amps and speakers. It will to my experience shine extra well with some setups just aswell as it sounds like poo through other setups.
This is in the tailoring of the midrange.

This model came about as there was this guitarist that requested an OD in between LGW and EGD and then some for a stadium type rock tone.

As this OD type saw light, I thought to myself if this midrange could not be done also in a distortion format much as I find I much more enjoy distortion than overdrive ;) hence the Model R.

Thanks and have fun
BJ

This pedal sounds titanic. I've heard a lot of things that have perked my attention., Tom Petty, AC/DC, and the stoner rock sound (does that mean a thick nearly fuzz sustain sound? Kind Dinosaur Jr-ish, Teenage Fanclub), if this is all true, this would be the "11+" pedal I need. if I don't win the drawing, I'll have to get in the long line to get one :).

this may have been asked already, but is this pedal still being researched? After the R&D will it become a MP pedal or a BJF line...or will it remain total customshop? Also, currently I have a well broken in G12h30 and a Fane V30 (supposed to be like a Cele V30 without the harsh upper mid spike)in a TopHat CR(Vox AC30TB-esque with a 18-20 watt power section, would the R react well with that setup?

I think some of you know that I'm friends with Mark Karan (MK) of Rat Dog and J. Puddleduck. I sent him a Model R to try out because I thought he'd like it. Well he does and I'm not getting it back. Here's a little something he said about it...

"it just... FEELS good. it responds very dynamically, cleans up with the volume knob really well and has no weird EQ humps or bumps or divots... it's a little dark sometimes but it basically seems to leave the original sound more or less untouched (or at least feeling natural and unmolested) and just adds mo' gain and a bit of midrange tweakability on the R knob. i think i actually like it better at lower gain settings than i do cranked, but i haven't gigged with it or even rehearsed at full volume yet so that's hard to say."

"i haven't played it thru a lot of different amps yet... it does sound best with PAFs but i like it with my nocaster too. the tweed deluxe sounded good with it. so did my webster corp amp and the two rock (esp. with the mid-boost on)."

Hopefully Rat Dog will be hitting the road this summer and maybe some of us will get a glimpse of the R!

I was hunting around for this information but it is a bit hard to find. Is there a list of amps/speakers that the Model R worked well with and a list of those that it did not work so well with? It would be nice if we could put that list here in one easy place :-)

well the overall consensus was that it kills with British (Marshall/Vox/Celestion/alnico) and with Fender/Jensen mmmm not so much

this is mostly because the Rs effect is mostly in the midrange and an amp/speaker that scoops mids negates alot of what the R does....

it ROCKS with a Soldano......although George Scholz (google him) is getting tready to put some celestion g-65 speakers in, and do a little tweaking of the soldano circuit, just for increased tone and whatever else he deems necessary.

he and bjorn have a lot in common, they are both geniuses at what they do. George has built a few fuzzes that KILL, but he's not interested in building fuzzes, he just had some vintage OC series trannies and basically built some stuff like DAM does.

but his amps are quite good, the Harry Joyce series amps. If you like 100 watt Hiwatts, you would love one of these. I'm going to use one in addition to the Soldano for my record, and Wes has a few other amps at the studio.

and ALL BJF AND MP PEDALS :-) i have three red dirt boxes in a row...mod R, CAF, and DRD....evil red trio they are!

I just picked up a '68 Super and the R sounds pretty damned amazing through it IMO. Its a freaking ocean of distortion with some reverb but the lead lines still rise to the top... its beeeautiful.
My BJFE- Some special ones. Some standard ones. I love them all just the same.
