Waiting for the AWF...

Postby EQ » Fri Jul 31, 2009 6:02 am

I'm sitting in a small mountain village in the most northern part of Sweden. Just mile after mile after mile after mile of untouched nature.

You can never be sure that the mail is gonna show up on time.

But IF it does today, I just might get my AWF! :) Should be here any minute now...

I hate waiting...

Thanks Donner! :D

My first impression is that I've never been so floored in my life! :o At least not by trying a pedal...

I compared to my PPF, and what I can say is:

* The PPF was somewhat tighter when trying to dial in a more distortion-like sound with some fuzz texture.

* The PPF came closer to dial in some Muff-like tones, even though it's nothing like it, I feel I can get into that territory more easily with PPF than AWF.

* AWF wins on every other point. More dynamic with the controls, bigger tone, deeper fuzz (more of a real fuzz), etc etc... I tried it out through a really bad and really cheap amp, so I guess the real testing will take place when I'm home in Gothenburg again. But to me AWF sounds like a very much developed FF with silicon trannies. I hear the herritage, but that doesn't mean I think the sound the same at all. AWF is the winner, no doubt. Tighter, more dynamic and controlled, yet not too polite, and every single setting seems useful unlike FF-types...

The cleanup was just perfect. Love it! AWF will, for sure, be my standard fuzz! (I still won't sell the PPF... ) Together with CAF I feel I have all fuzz covered that I will ever have use for.

I guess I don't have anything to say that hasn't been said allready. I love AWF, I can feel that it will be a very important part of my fuzz sound for a very long time. It feels so natural and full, and covers a lot of ground thanks to dynamics in pick attack, guitar controls, and useful controls on the pedal itself.

Haha yes, I am very happy with the serial number... 8)

And Slim... Thanks...

It sure did! I don't know if I will have food at the end of the month - I don't care! I will live from my love for the AWF...

Yes, it seems to be very versatile, like the CAF but very very different. No overlap at all, as far as I'm concerned... It has a classic fuzz sound, but still something very unique... I'm soooo in love! :D

i completely agree -- the CAF and AWF make quite a versatile pair of fuzzes. i let go of my CAF, but that was a mistake. i miss it quite a lot. i used it for that nature knob set at 11:59 pm "octavia" sound at live gigs......but the CAF can do so much MORE. i think i will have another one someday. i think it's one of the most amazing fuzzes ever made.

i have never tried the PPF....i am sure it is very good as well......but the CAF has a special place in my heart.

however......the AWF does this BIG BOLD fuzztone that is just amazing for solos....and it is "wah friendly"......and it does NOT sound like anything else.

if you push it hard with humbuckers, there are some "funny" things that happen

sort of ring modulated noises that you can make, then back off your picking and look around at everyone else like you didn't DO IT......and where DID that noise come from?

Yep, the octavia is awesome! And the fact that it can do so many other things makes it a winner live! And it sounds good with low fuzz through other fuzzes or overdrives, oh yeah, you've gotta get yourself a new one! :o

The PPF is a very very good pedal, no doubt. Great range, great tone, etc... Won't sell it! Never sell BJF's... However, I find AWF bigger sounding and even more useful. But let's not forget that I have just tried it for a few hours through a really crappy amp that I got from my parents in -93 when I started playing. 8) Haven't tried it through a wah yet, but if it is as good as the PPF, I will be more than happy.

Oh, gotta try that with the Les Paul. Maybe tonight...
